Default Temp Sensor/AC issue question

Hope this is the right spot, but I am looking at a 2015 z51 with an edelbrock e-force on it already. It throws code P0128, the physical temp gauge doesn't register but self tests fine. The digital gauge shows the temp properly. Seems to drive fine, took it on a pretty long test drive and noticed the AC isn't coming on. Compressor isn't kicking on, I didn't have gauges with me to verify pressure.

It seems like this is probably related to a temp sensor, but I am not familiar with the temp sensor setup on these cars. I used to be a tech and had ASE master, so I am not a complete idiot but I didn't have any tools and couldn't rack it to check much, wasn't sure if anyone had any ideas about it. I am very interested in the car but I would hate to get into it and have to spend a bunch more. It is still under warranty.

Edit: Just noticed the digital gauge is actually oil temp, so it isn't getting coolant temp readings but has oil temp and that was normal.

Not sure what you mean by the physical temp gauge but maybe you mean the analog gauge below the gas gauge on the right side. Put the instrument cluster into Tour Mode and then use the steering wheel buttons to go to performance and you will see a digital display of coolant temp, oil temp, oil pressure and others will appear vertically to the right side of the digital speed reading. This is about the only setting that gives readable numbers for everything.

I'm betting that the car has a 160 or 170 thermostat. The car is expecting the coolant to get up to a certain temp within a short time after startup. If/when it takes longer than expected the ECM sets that code and doesn't display a coolant temp. It can also shut off the A/C and turn the radiator fan on to high, even when the car is shut off.

You can turn off that code.
