I had a Core shifter on my last ctsv and loved it! I uad planned to go woth MGW on the C7 based on reviews, but like exhaust sound, shifter feel is very subjective. I can't trust any of you guys opinions!!! (Jk!)

Very subjective. I also just like the retro-look of the Hurst and the legendary name on the classic chrome stick.
I have looked at it pretty closely..
I had one in my C5Z06, and transferred it to my 2014 Stingray...
It has Hurst internals and has the best feel of any I have tried..
It is the perfect combination of short throw, but minimal shift effort in the overdrive gears, and has a definite "Click" when it is in gear...
MGW box may be a bit better design, but I don't like that they left the box open to dirt and heat. I also like that the GM design engages the shift lever through a plastic bushing instead of the end of the shifter stick rubbing metal to metal.
Actually, there's no metal to metal anywhere in the MGW shifter & box. Everything that slides or rotates is metal to plastic. The black ball on the end of the shift lever that engages the sliding shift rod in the box is not metal, but plastic. Delrin maybe?
As far as being open on the bottom - yeah, you're right, it is. I've used an MGW box for three years now with three shifters, two MGWs and the CORE, and so far no troubles. I guess time will tell.

I was thinking that the shaft and ball was one piece like the factory shifter, but it looks like you are correct. Have not looked at one in awhile.

MGW did sell one like that, a couple of model revisions ago and not for long. It had a steel **** on the end of the shift lever and used the same plastic bushing as the stock shifter, Core, and others use. That's probably what you were remembering.
I installed mine yesterday. It was fairly straight forward. Only tricky part is getting the adhesive back foam insulation in place. It took about 1.5 hours.
I will wait for final verdict on whether it's worth it or not. It is stiffer than stock and I don't mind the stock shifting. I bought it as I heard so many positive reviews. I am not wowed by this and was only getting a bit notchy shifting 1-2 when cold.
Congrats...like shifting with a scalpel vs a machete. Best mod ever...what took you so long?
Semper Fi
Then there is few on here who think actually the stock piece is improved and the MGW is not an upgrade needed on the C7
when it still looks the same as the C6 shifter. Boy are they WRONG!
Dead quiet and smooth with easy access to all gears. Made by a gunsmith. Another level over stock.

What was involved in installing it? What did u have to remove? I ordered one and its sitting in my garage waiting to be installed but Im scared to do it as my C7Z is only 3 weeks old.
MGW has install videos on their web page that are really good. Also, there's a sticky thread up top of this section for the install. Lots of documentation, so there aren't any surprises.
