I have a feeling that the whining noise that I'm hearing may possibly be the water pump going out on my 2014 and was wondering if anyone has done this themselves. I know the unit itself from the dealer is about $320. I've tried to look up YouTube and have been unsuccessful in finding how to do this on a C7. So if anyone has any links or websites or maybe a YouTube video that would be great thanks. I don't know if this matters or not but I have an automatic. Also I am at 43000 miles so I'm out of warranty
Your powertrain warranty should cover a water pump I would think, which is 5/100 coverage on 2014/15 models (5/60 on 2016+). If not, the ACDelco replacement w/gasket is only $75 from Rockauto. A quick Google search will get you a 5% off discount code too.
What's making me think it's the water pump is that the car makes a high-pitched whining noise and it's attached in sync with the accelerator xcetera so while it's in park and I rev It Up the high-pitched sound goes up if that makes any sense

But then again look at your pulleys on the whining also. Could be a pulley going out.

Would I have to remove belt in order to check pulleys? Ive unsuccessfully searched YouTube to see about removing water pumps and/or tensioner / idler pulleys on a 2014 Stingray. If anybody has any links they can post that will be great, I'm just trying to find out if it will be worth my time to look at it myself before I drop her off at the dealer because I have two Chevrolet dealers and I do not trust either one of them and the closest one after that is about 60 miles

Also with the car off but the belt still attached there is a small amount of play in the water pump pulley very very small that's what's making me think that it's the water pump however I may be wrong
Do you have a leak from the pump? Feel around the back side of the pulley and pump to see if you can feel coolant or a find that area has something sticky on it.
Have checked the idler pulley to see if it is squealing? Same goes for the alternator. Use a long dowel rod as a stethoscope and put it on things that may be a source of squealing to locate the proper component.

no water leaks. but should there be zero play in waterpump? I'll check using the stethascope way. so do i put the rod on the actual piece of equipment? or the pulley;?
just wanted to update you guys. dealer diagnosed it as the tensioner pulley. the one they replaced @ 4k miles. the customer liaison at the dealer is awesome and is replacing it without cost since it had been replaced before. i did some small measure of research and i think it should be a recall from the amount of testimonies online.
thanks guys
for all the help over the years!

Mine started doing the same thing and I'm at 54,000 miles. I used a mechanics stethoscope and figured it was the tensioner. Took the belt off and ran the car for a few seconds, few revs, and the sound was gone. I have a new tensioner and belt on the way from Gene Culley at CultRag! Here's the sound it was making:

Although you have your answer you can't put the dowel rod on the moving part. It has to be on the stationary part of the idler or other part you may be interested in listening to. Just touch it to the part and then place your ear on the other end.
Just heard GM released a Technical Service Bulletin on C7 water pumps. I've done a quick search online and called two dealerships. Can't seem to find the "bulletin." Is anyone in the know about C7 water pumps?
I took my 2014 to two service technicians, one being just five miles from my house, they kept my car for two days and couldn't find any problems. A week goes by and as I'm pulling off the interstate and stop at a restaurant parking lot the temp jumped up to 240. So I decided to drive 45 min to Koon Chevrolet in Tysons Va, their shuttle service dropped me off at the cheesecake Factory and before I could finish my appetizers, the Corvette Service Manager calls me and says there is a bulletin out my C7, and that they have to order the part and give me a loaner car. He stated there is no way that the other two dealerships should not have gotten the bulletins. Only down side my loaner was Buick Enclave....but it was brand new.
