Does setting the steering to track via the infotainment settings just tighten up the steering or does it also lessen the nannies like actual track mode?

It only adjusts the feel. And track mode alone doesn't lessen any nannies. You have to enter the PTM sub modes after first selecting track mode.
Good info. I haven't played much with these settings as of yet. I DO know that I do NOT like the steering while in Touring mode, etc. How do I change it?
Seriously, I'm not being sarcastic. The only way to get familiar with your car is to read the owners manual front to back paying special attention to your most want to know stuff, but read it all the way thru first (even the boring stuff you THINK you know). Sit in your car after reading about the settings & just go thru them all to learn how to get into all the different settings & subsets of the menu. Play with it till you can do it quickly & easily so even while driving so you can change things to see how you like the different feel of settings. Don't you love these things! PS, had a 2014 Z51, paid it off got the stupid fast 2016 Z06!!! Big ole smile everytime I just start it up & hear that growl.

Kind of have to do it with this car. There are so many menus and options between the dash and infotainment system. I did read the manual but I was still not sure if all you got with track steering was the tighter feel.
Really? I am a dude...we don't do manuals unless it's broken.
You sound like my wife now.
Disagree. I read everything front to cover, and then seek out more (one of the reasons I am on this forum). But, maybe its because I'm an engineer who wants to understand how everything works. Honestly, I can't imagine buying a high-tech toy and then NOT digging in to understand.
If you have a z51 with Mag Shocks, you get PTM. In "track" mode, a double push on the button gives you 5 traction options. For Street, I would not use anything more aggressive than sport 3. For Track use, Sport 3-4 are ok...
That said, I use Race (5) mode on the track, and this disables traction control. Unless the tires are totally hot, and you are a VERY experienced racer, you can get the car sideways pretty quick, so I'd advise you to use with caution.
Agreed on turning TC off. I am a reasonably decent track day driver and I'm not turning it off completely. I'm leaving time on the table, but it's also an expensive car.
IMSA and other professional race car setups have Traction Control but NO Stabilitrak. Remains a bit of my beef for tracking (who wants out of corner launch killed by moderate G-Force). Theres still a way to have fun: Stabilitrak all off resulting in Traction Control all off provides more track skill opportunity at 700 RWHP. Unfortunatelty, Corvette has it's limits without system mods.

This is incorrect. PTM 5 RACE has traction control without active handling. You can plant your right foot coming out of a corner and the computer will modulate throttle to mitigate wheel spin. But you're fully able to spin out at any moment if you upset the car as there is no stability control.
If you're at a drag strip, it would be much safer to single press the center button to turn off traction control but leave stability control on in whatever mode you're using.
Mindbend, in your settings menu in the center stack screen you'll see an option for driver settings. You can choose a steering mode or exhaust mode to be locked and not change regardless of any suspension mode you choose (Tour, Sport, Track).
