Just look at getting the smallest rim like a 17 are 18 rim so you can get the tallest tire on the rear. Plus a 5 are 7 inch wide rim on the front.
Can we fit 17's on our cars? I was under the impression 18" was as low as we could go without a conversion.
And to OP: An 18x10.5/11" rear with a 315 tire is pretty cost effective. The Mickey Thompson tires probably give the most grip from a DR, but have had mixed reports of stability. The NT05R is a popular option which has good grip, and excellent stability. Running skinnies up front would also help things at the strip if you want to take it a step further.
You could also check out M&H. I haven't personally ran them, I'm still on MT street.. but I know a bunch of c6 and c7 friends that have the or are switching to them.

You could run a c5z wheel and like a 305/40/18. Pretty sure this setup has been done by a few forum members. StangKillerProductions runs this setup if I am not mistaken.
I am using the 285/40/18 MT ET Streets on a C5Z replica rim, works 100% fine for dig racing! No rubbing, no issues,
^14 C7 A6 Z51 (slightly lowered but not all the way on stock bolts)
I have noticed some swaying at higher speeds with these tires so i normally only will dig race with them and currently keep them around 26psi, Im full bolt on and E85 and can dig pretty good with them on the street with a quick scrub of the tire and rpm to 1500-1800 then let it go with all the nannies off.
@2000+rpms they will spin, i bet i could drop pressure to 20-22psi and they would stick but would probably become more unstable at speed too.
what does everyone recommend? I will be around 725 rwhp?
