So a couple of nights ago my kid was driving our 2016 Tahoe and he got a flat. It was raining and ugly, and he was dressed and on his way to a banquet, so I told him to call OnStar.
They reported that they were busy and had no one available.
He wound up using AAA, but I've never run into that before. Has anyone else called OnStar only to be told they're too busy?
And yes, both he and I can change a tire. But since it's paid for in the price of the vehicle and using a factory jack in the rain can be hazardous, I figured why not? But no.
That is pretty bad service. One would expect if their contracted service was not available they would at least handle putting your son into contact with another service. When you have some spare time in the next couple of days I would call OnStar and get kicked up to a supervisor so at least you should get some added months of "no-service service" added although at this point that wouldn't be worth much. It reminds me of when Jay Leno was reviewing weird company customer service/warranty promises and the one I will never forget is Mueslix cereal. At introduction it came with a promise that if you don't like it will we send you another box free. Perhaps OnStar will give you several more months of service in name only
I sort of ran into the situation last year. I had a flat while towing the Corvette to the track. I was stuck in a rest area for two hours before the guy could get to me. He was on another call when I called. I waited for about 45 minutes and he called to say he was on the way. The traffic was bad due to construction and he spent some time sitting still directly opposite the rest area going the other way. He had to go down to the next intersection and turn around to get to me. Of course the traffic tie up was at that intersection.
They may have already tried to call a different service but couldn't find any and the AAA service may not have accepted OnStar payment.
Isn't the Roadside Assistance a GM Warranty benefit. OnStar only takes the call and refers to the GM assistance benefit. I am not aware of a roadside assistance benefit with Onstar plans. I may be wrong, but that is my understanding.
Edit: Just checked the OnStar site and you are correct, they include Roadside Assistance in the plan. I was not aware of that. They owe you an explanation.
That is total BS. That is their entire reason for existing and they just blow you off. I would be demanding to talk to someone high up the food chain. Maybe even get your dealer involved if you have a good relationship with them.
