Default Code P0106 MAP at 158 MPH - Your Thoughts?

Car is consistently throwing a P0106 MAP code at exactly 168 MPH in 5th gear at around the same RPM.

Car is a 2017 C7Z with about 6,000 miles. It does not do it at any other speed/RPM or gear.

- Session 1 did it at 168 MPH and 5,899 RPM
- Session 2 did it at 168 MPH and 6,082 RPM

Rest of sessions same thing always at 168 MPH in 5th.

When it’s thrown car goes into reduced/limp power mode. I reset the code with my CAN/OBDII reader and all is well until I once again hit 168 MPH.

I sprayed the MAP sensor to clean it and nothing changed.

Code and Freeze Frame values for the 2 runs are provided below.

Any thoughts?

TIA

Rick

Have you seen the TSB for a broken valve spring for this code?

Do you have an aftermarket Cold intake?

I've seen the TSB and guarantee I don't have a broken valve spring. Also, no CAI. Car is 100% stock

I finally got a chance to install a new MAP sensor as recommended by Mike Levitas/TPC Racing, Kushan/Excelsior Motorsports and several on here.

I tested yesterday and car powered through the 167/168 MPH firewall with no codes or reduced power/limp mode. Went to 175 and it was still pulling when I lifted. Looks like this solved the problem with one caveat.

Only different variable is prior the ambient temp was high 80s. Yesterday it was only 60 degrees. Not sure if ambient temp is a pertinent variable?

I'll know for sure next time I get to test on a hot day.

One interesting observation is the car felt crisper, more responsive and faster at all RPMs in every gear. I don't think this was my imagination as I know the car pretty well. However, no quantitative measurement to confirm......

At what actual MPH is it occurring? Mine was 167/168 MPH.

I thought you'd initially said 158, same as Khalid. Typo, or am I confused?

Damn, my bad. In the parallel C7Z thread I was educated on the fact that the PCM VSS maxes out at 158 MPH. EVERY time my car throws the code the HUD shows I'm doing 167 or 168 even though the PCM VSS is logging it's max value of 158 MPH.

I'm thinking Khalid is seeing the same thing. Namely that he's seeing the PCM logged VSS max reading of 158 MPH. I'm wondering what his HUD/speedometer is showing when it pulls the plug.

Well hell. The new MAP did not solve my problem either. I though it had. It was a "cold" day when I ran it with the new sensor and it didn't throw the P0106. It seems to be directly related to ambient temperature. Here's where I'm at:

1. On a low 82 degree day with the original MAP sensor it threw a P0106 and got REP at 168 MPH

2. On a 50 degree day with a new MAP sensor I got to 175 MPH and no code. However, I ran out of track and had to lift. I bet if I had more room it would have thrown the code just at a higher MPH.

3. On a 87 degree day it threw a P0106 and REP at 163 MPH.

Just called my dealer and raised hell as I haven't heard from them since contacting one month ago....

Rik, what RPM do you think you're at when this happens? Is it nowhere near the shift, right before an upshift, or after one?

RPMs are logged in the CAN reader in post #1:

- Session 1 did it at 167 MPH and 5,899 RPM
- Session 2 did it at 168 MPH and 6,082 RPM

Friends ranch with some really nice stretches of good pavement. Elevation changes but a good place to test.

My 2015 did not do it. Sort of curious just how many other cars would do it as well. I doubt many are driven at that speed and as such, people don't know they have this "problem".

I would check the complete intake system for any chance of a leak if you have not yet. From the air leaner to the SC top. If it is a leak and happing at those high rpm's it would be almost worthless to do a common spray test at idle.

Looking forward to a couple of days at WG soon and to work on the recommendations
