2017 A8 trans reverse issue
I have a 2017 base c7 with an A8 automatic transmission, when I put the car in reverse there is about 3 second delay before the transmission will engage in reverse (3 seconds of neutral). The car starting doing the within 350 miles of picking in up new, it now has 1350 miles. It has been at the dealership for 5 days and they have not determined the cause. The dealership is in contact with gm tech support, they have had the tech's scan the trans and do pressure test. No ideas yet on what is causing the issue.
Have any of you experienced a similar problem? Any ideas on what is causing the issue, I really hope they don't have the drop the transmission.
Thanks for any help.

I just bought a new 16. Less than 400 miles on it so far... I can say it doesn't instantly drop into R. But it hasn't been long enough to make me notice is as an issue. I'll try to pay more attention next time I hop in it. I'm sure others will chime in.

I have never noticed this issue (2016 Z06) but the first start of the day I always let it idle long enough to drop to base idle (maybe 30 seconds), for the remaining starts I take off right after the engine has started.
Does this problem only occur after it has been sitting for awhile or is it at every start up?

This has to do with fluid drainback from the torque converter, namely the stator support assembly plate is allowing the fluid to leak back due to lack of an additional check ball in the veins of the plate. This causes a delay when the fluid has to re-fill and pressurize the torque converter... Then the gear engages.
Google this TSB to read everything about it. FYI, I have this same issue going into drive only from park. I have not gotten this TSB done as a few have reported it does not solve the issue...

I don't think the OP has the fluid drainback due to missing check valve issue. He has a 2017 and he states it happens every time and not just at cold start.

This is why I use the remote start. By the time I get into the car it has had several minuets to run.

To warn you, it will get worse and you have to be careful coz as you put more miles the car will start jumping and you might hit something behind you. I used to step hard on the brakes when I put it in reverse to prevent any accidents.

The car has been at the dealership for 12 days! Today they finally gave up trying to find the issue and said they are going to replace the transmission. At least an additional week, unbelievable how long it is taking to get this car fixed, I hope the car gets put back together right.

One of the many reasons I make it a point to park so I don't have to back up.
