And if you do use Eco Mode you more than likely won't be able to tell when it switches from V8 to V4 and back to V8. The operation is pretty much seamless except for the change in engine exhaust sound if you have the exhaust programmed to permanent track mode. GM has programmed the exhaust so it goes into quiet mode when the engine is operating in V4 mode.

Default Sorry to resurrect this and jump in but I have something similar

Granted it's in a C8 with the LT2 but I hear very faint chirping and also a low thrumm that feels like lugging in low rpm < 1500rpm in V4 mode with light throttle with a bit of load like going slightly uphill.
None of this happens in V8 mode. Was this ever identified and resolved in the LT1?

Default Did you ever figure out what these pinging noises were?

On edit: You should try to ride in another C7 in V4 mode to see if you hear it in their car. You don't note where you live, but if you're local to the Cincy area, shoot me a PM.
My LT2 is doing same thing. It did not make the noises from day one, they started after I had about 1400 miles on the engine.

They aren't supposed to ping. Sumtingwong. Mine has never been noticeable V4 to V8.

i thought the ECM was supposed to retard pinging at the first onset, before your ear can hear it? If so, is it real ping?

It sounds like a very faint/light pinging and it's basically continuous under light load (going uphill in 5th at less than 1500 RPM in AFM mode). It does not ping in V8 mode.

As soon as it starts, the ECM should have retarded it to the timing. Should be before you can hear it. Have your scans of the ECM showed any knock retard?

I would think so. I don't have the car here but some sort of knock counter should be there.
