I *just* bought a gorgeous 2015 this week and picked it up this morning.
As I was playing around with the car I started fiddling with the manual door release tab/cable in the trunk and I somehow managed to let it slip through the hole it comes out of and lost it behind the panel
Is there any way I might be able to get that back out so it's usable should I need it?
I know the right side wheel well has clips. You have to put a trim till under the bottom edge to get it started. I'm not certain of the left side is the same. You also might be able to access it by removing the wheel and unscrew the wheel well liner.
There's some pics here of the right inside fender cover showing clips. Although there is no guarantee that the left is similar you may want to take a look.
I took a piece of wire made a small hook and fished the cable up to the hole. Then I took a pair of needle nose pliers and pulled it back through the hole.
Then I took a small piece of flexible plastic and cut it about 1" square. Drilled a small hole in the middle and cut a slit from the hole to the edge of the plastic.
Spread the plastic apart and slip it over the door release cable. Now it can't go back into the hole.
I've pulled both rear side panels off along with the cargo carpet/cover to replace my battery recently. To get the side panel off, you need to pop the small panel with the large plastic protrusion sticking out. Use a plastic panel removal tool - it's only held on with snap clips. Then you need to pop off the plastic covers in the middle of the eyehooks with the same tool and use a Torx bit to remove the eyehook. Finally you can grab the main side panel and pop it off. It's also only held on with clips. Reverse the process to install it.
