Default Need a recommendation for brake pads

hello,

Just got back from the track with my 2015 Z51 and I killed my pads. I would like to get a suitable replacement that is in line with OEM and has low brake dust. I'm not going to track my vette again for quite some time until I can get proper track pads and rotors.

Any help you you can give is appreciated.

David

Carbotech 1521 for the street and then XP12/10 for the track. They are compatible so you can just swap the pads back and forth without having to re-bed.

Powerstop Z23 or Z26 (same pad material, different shims). Low dust, no noise, great for performance street usage.

For a quality aftermarket pad I would recommend the Carbotech 1521 pad 100% made in the USA. Low dust performs like OEM and is 100% non corrosive dust will not harm your wheels or paint.

The great thing about Carbotech brake pads is all their compounds are compatible with each other. So, when going from the 1521 to the XP series (Track) pads all you have to do is swap pads and go no re-bedding no cleaning of the rotors just swap pads and go. This also saves you the cost of having to get a separate set of rotors for track or street.

The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non-corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

Many threads here.

I like the PowerStops for street use. I don't track. But other do with them. There are two varieties, one for track. Check out the thread that is dozens of pages long.

No need for the Corvette Tax.

This is the exact combo I've used for many years on my supercharged Mustang Cobra. In addition to the brake performance, they are generally easy on rotors and the organic brake dust won't adhere to wheels and lower body and rust when it gets wet.

However, first two day track event at Watkins Glen in the Stingray, I managed to overheat the brakes badly and had a lot of rotor hot spots with excessive pad transfer.
I blame it on the crappy stock 2 piece rotors with cooling rings. had the fronts replaced under warranty and will change the rears before the Glen next spring.

FWIW, I'm just a casual track day driver. Driving in the advanced group but very conservatively, learning the new car, the Stingray on stock rubber was nearly 4 seconds faster than my heavily modded 565 hp Cobra on R comps. Impressive.

thats the info I was looking for. I've used Carbotech for years on my miata track car. Good brakes and good company. I'm going to go with your recommendation.

How about the rotors? What are you using? I cooked my stock ones pretty good. Not sure they are made for the track. 😳

On the rotors, I'm still undecided. I've been cutting back on the track events to just two/ year and planning long two week road trips for the summers. I may just wait and see how the new stock one piece rotors hold up to limited track work. Or I may upgrade to KNS or DBA either full time or as a second set just for track days. Depends on how the new stock rotors work out I guess. Older I get, seems harder it is for me to make decisions.
Were your stock rotors the 2 piece or the later 1 piece rotors?

for now I think I'm going to try to resurface the rotors as long there are no stress cracks. I was looking at the DBA's for next track season.
