3rd Brake Light repair or replace?

I have a couple elements burned out on my 3rd brake light under the rear spoiler. Looks like the entire rear facia needs to be removed to get access. Can the 3rd brake lights be repaired, or is it just a remove and replace the entire light?

If the car is under warranty I would take it to the dealer to see if it is covered. They are LEDs and probably are replaced as a unit. The part is ~$165 at a discount. A fairly expensive price for something that is basically a series of diodes.

I doubt very much if you can replace just the burnt out lamps. More than likely the LEDs are all soldered on a strip or a board.

To replace the LED unit, you'll need to pull the rear facia cover off. If you google youtube Chevydude he has a video on how that is done in less than 20 minutes
