From what I’m hearing the 19’s should be tunable since they share the same Ecm as the 18’ but the ZR1 runs a entirely new system that is encrypted and has not yet been accessible. To the OP, Hp tuners will definitely be the most user friendly software available for our cars.

There will be a few years yet, I imagine, where people will still be able to brute-force their way into the ECMs through unexpected vectors. Like sending 24V of a rickroll video through the debug pin, or something stupid like that.

Then once the aftermarket has shaken out those few holes and bugs, the industry will reach a point where the motors do become untunable by the aftermarket.

At that point you'll wind up running piggyback controllers for spark and timing, or adjunctive fuel systems that monitor O2 perhaps, or a dozen other hacky ways I can think of.

So we'll still be tuning for years, it just won't be as easy.

But when the cars come with 750hp, how much tuning do you really need? I'm not exactly pounding the tables wishing my Z06 had even less traction!

From what I hear encryption on the zr1 and newer cars will have not only strong encryption that has a private key for each individual ecu, but over the air update-able. GM cant afford to allow tuning when the self driving vehicles and supercruise cars start driving around. Brave new world.

I'd be happy with 1000 hp. I think tuning after that is all about driveability and turning off emissions BS

HPT can't do anything to the ABS module

Your foot can do it. Cycle the ABS a few times with the car in the air. Been doing this for years.

There will always be people that are able to crack into the ecu of a car for tuning purposes. I have a friend who runs a well respected tuning shop in the eastern part of the US who has been doing custom flash tunes of F series BMW's since 2013. He is a computer engineer who breaks into the ECU, extracts the hex code, decodes it and enters it into his own software to adjust table parameters. He has been tuning all kinds of German cars via flash based methods long before others have.

I have approached him about taking these services more openly public and his response has always been "why?" He doesn't need to and makes more money off these specialized tunes than he would bringing a tuning solution to market and supporting it.

He doesn't really get in to GM vehicles, but I'm sure would be able to get through the encryption and have access to basically anything he wanted within the CAN of the car.

To the OP specifically, I also come from a background containing BMW's (have had 14) and know what you are talking about with coding. The access into the BMW CAN system is much better and far more advanced that I have seen with any other auto manufacturer.

With the car elevated and no inertial resistance to braking, how would you even get ABS to engage?

Not tying to be difficult here, just looking for more color as I still don't see how this would work.

It will still engage as long as you get wheel speeds high enough. The rear alone should be enough to force trapped air out. If not take it out on the street and do some hard braking to engage abs.
