Also, colloquialisms, they exist. Trying to correct someone's use of language when its blatantly obvious from context what they're talking about does nothing to serve the conversation. Does his use of the word "dampener" suddenly mean you don't understand what he's saying? Just because you don't use the word the way everybody else does doesn't mean his thoughts and ideas are no longer conveyed appropriately.
Doesn't change the fact that it is wrong. I prefer to not to operate under the close enough philosophy.

I don't mean to continue your pedantic argument, but no, it's not wrong. However, saying "It's a damper not dampener" is wrong.

It's not a matter of "close enough" it's a matter of language. It's a perfectly acceptable a valid definition of the word, whether or not you think so.

By trying to argue that you're right and everybody else is wrong does nothing for the conversation and only serves to help you "feel smarter than everyone else." Especially if you feel the need to qualify your superiority in the English language with how many years you've been doing suspension work, as if they're related.

Now, let's get back on topic and stop shitting all over this guy's thread.

Ha... I'll refer you to Kory Stamper, lexicographer and associate editor of Merriam Webster and her statement on the word irregardless.

(spoiler alert: yes it's a word, yes it's in the dictionary, but that doesn't mean you should use it. Mostly because people will clown on you for doing so.)

I see this devolving into a discussion of "champing" vs "chomping" at the bit.
