i have a 2014 z51 and the rear vision system has become intermittent. it’s either the camera or the screen. thought i would replace the camera to see if that cleans things up. anyone have or has seen a how to video on how to replace the rear camera? or a step by step process on how to replace the camera? any info is appreciated.
Check to make sure your cable connections are in good shape. From what the dealership Corvette Tech tells me they have had a lot of problems with the camera cables in all of their cars. He had to replace the cable for my PDR and he says he has replaced rear view camera cables in Chevy's, Buick's, Caddies and GMC Trucks.

i would if i knew how. that’s why i asked what the procedure was to replace a camera. some people have fixed the issue with simply pulling the connector, cleaning and reinstalling. don’t know if the camera comes out through the front or if the rear fascia must be removed. can’t seem to find a post that shows how to do it. some have fixed the issue by disconnecting, cleaning and reinstalling the connectors for the nav module. can’t find any how to on that either. i don’t believe the cables are covered under my extended gm warranty. my dealer reprogrammed the system but that did not solve the problem.
I believe the cables will be covered. It is interesting the dealer mechanic didn't resolve the problem.
It took a while but I found the rear vision camera in volume 4 of the FSM. To replace the camera you have to remove the rear fascia. Once the fascia is removed you can press some snap clips and remove the camera from the fascia. There is a pluggable connector attached to the camera with a short harness.
When the transmission is placed in reverse the body control module supplies a voltage and ground to the camera and it sends back camera video + and - signals to the human-machine interface module.
The diagnostic code related to the rear vision system is B127B-2B. You would need a scanner that can read a lot more than OBD II codes to see if this code is set although when set it should cause the Service Rear Vision System message to be displayed. The ignition voltage is supplied at the BCM on connector X5 Pin 14 and the ground selection is supplied on BCM connector X7 Pin 8. The video signal differential signal lines go to the Human-Machine Interface Module K74 on Connector X2 Pins 5 and 6.

thx so much Bill. great info. my dealer saw my software was old and updated it. i guess they thought that would solve the problem. it didn’t. i’m waiting for them to reimburse me for what they charged me to do the reprogram. they told me the only other thing they can do is start replacing parts until they stumble on the fix. i don’t have much confidence in them. they told me there is no other way to diagnose the problem. sounds ridiculous to me. i think it must be a cable or intermittent connector as the back up camera will work one time and then go squirrely and throw the service rear vision system message the next time. the screen works just fine for all other functions. the problem only manifests when engaging the back up camera. you would think that would narrow their focus on where to look for the issue. some people have solved the issue by disconnecting the plug at the camera, cleaning it, applying a bit of dielectric grease and plugging it back in. i was going to try that but i don’t want to tackle removing the rear fascia on my own. guess i need to start looking for another dealer. btw, the hmi module. is that the module housed behind the drivers side kick panel?
If you are getting that Service Message then you are getting the diagnostic code that tells them whether a line is open or shorted. This should pop up when they are using their factory tools to scan the car. If you have a video that comes and goes it is highly likely the connector at the Human Machine Interface Module needs to be cleaned or the connector at the camera end needs to be cleaned. A worst case scenario is the cable is damaged. That is what happened when my PDR stopped working. The PDR camera cable lies under the passenger foot well and when somebody was in the car they tended to push a sharp edge into the cable which had been slightly out of position. That edge crushed the cable in that spot causing the wire inside to break. The big problem is to replace a cable GM only sources the harness so the parts cost can get high. My problem was covered by the warranty but the mechanic thought it would be better to remove the camera cable from the harness and tie it to the old harness Vs pulling the complete old harness out of the car.

thanks for all your help Bill. since the problem is intermittent i think it’s a cable or dirty connector too. from what i have been able to find out is the human machine interface module is located behind the kick panel on the drivers side. can you confirm that. i can pull the connectors and clean them then reinstall if i can get at it. really don’t want to pull the rear fascia though to clean the rear camera connector. when you say the pdr cable is located under the passenger footwell do you mean inside the car or under the car?
If and when this would happen to my '14, I'll replace the OEM camera and hook the new aftermarket camera into my Navtool. The Navtool has the ability to run a rear facing camera but still allows me to use the OEM camera. Taking the rear facia off to do a rear camera repair is not on my list of fun **** to do!
