Default HMI module

im having issues with the screen on my 2014. want to check the connections on the hmi module. it’s behind the driver side kick panel. any vids or instructions on removing that kick panel? probably an easy thing to do but a guide to follow would keep me from possibly break or screw up something

Actually, it is above the kick panel and fully visible to work on. You can disconnect the 4 or 5 leads that enter on the bottom and slide the unit down and out if you'd like. Removing the kick panel is one piece of trim at the top that lays on the kick panel and then prying up on the piece of KP on the floor. BUT, you don't really have to remove the kick panel to mess with the HMI.

In this matter, size does matter! I'm 5'6" at 157 pounds and I can get in there and molest the hell out of the HMI! Bribe a smaller friend to get in there and check the connections. The connections are small and lock in place. A simple nudge up on each of the connectors will be a chack on a valid connection.

A small, dexterous friend can be invaluable working on cars! One of the best "tools" to cultivate!

If the issue with your screen is the "flicker" where the screen goes blank and sometimes comes back a while later, the problem is probably not with your HMI. The internal ribbon cable that connects the screen to the frame is the culprit.

There is a company that rebuilds them but I cannot find the post with their name. I believe they send you a rebuilt one with a deposit for your core. Much cheaper than going to the Stealership and having them install a rebuilt replacement or a new one. The other option of course is new from GM but that is expensive. Replacing the screen is a bit of a pain as you have to remove the dash front and center console to get at it. Good opportunity to install a CF dash while you are in there. There are great how-to thread here on both topics. It is a few hour work. Not hard, just be patient.

I live in Holly wood and I am 5'8" and I replaced the HMI in my 2016 Vette. I am retired and I can drive up to your area and get under the dash and check it out for you.

thanks Rod for the kind offer but i found out my extended warranty will cover a screen replacement. saw the original owner last night and he told me the screen had been replaced once before. looks like my best bet is the dealer after all.

except it only flickers when the car is in reverse which could indicate a rear camera or cable problem. decided to let a dealer figure it out. just need to find one that actually knows how to work on corvettes. my local dealer sure doesn’t have a clue.
