I have a 2017 Base Stingray LT3 (non Z51) and am going to turn it into a track car... not dedicated... a driver/track car...
While simultaneously working on brakes, I will have a few other items going, but this thread is for brakes. Brake COOLING will be a switch to the Z06 grill and cooling ducts up front.
AP Racing..... Brembo GT / GTR .... Racing Brake.... Others I should be considering? Ones I should NOT be considering? The choices are dizzying!
Look at KNS. Just upgraded my 2016 Base model to Z51 front (yes they fit ) and rear slotted DBA 4000 rotors and the DBA XP650 Track pads. Upgraded front calipers to Z51 - rears the same.
Love the DBA SP500 street pads (Very, very little dust). Use RBF 600 or similar brake fluid with an ABS flush by the dealer..

You should really find out what the true weak points are on the brake system before you throw money at it, IMO. Sometimes a simple pad and cooling solution may be as effective as a $4,000 brake kit.
Not saying there's no merit to buying a $4,000 brake kit from any of the reputable vendors like AP Racing, Brembo, StopTECH, RacingBrake...etc. They all increase heat capacity without sacrificing unsprung weight to some extent. But you really should find out the WHYs before asking HOW.
I fully intend on taking my '17 GS on track a few times before I throw any money at anything (except I already threw money at alignment, but that's what GM recommends), even though based on my experience with my previous cars I already have a good idea on what it needs.
Sorry i wasn't clear before.... I do intend to do some cooling in advance of the actual upgrades... and some track days after the cooling upgrades and before any hardware changes... just to see where we stand.... Based upon other's experience however, I don't anticipate avoiding hardware changes... hence the question and at least trying to understand what options there are and how people feel about them. Hopefully that makes sense.
AP Racing J hook rotors and agressive pads on stock calipers was enough brakes for my z51 and my driving. I run carbotech pads but I think pads are a driver preference so choose ones you like the feel of. I put the z06 grill and add on front cooling ducts also. I agree with the former post. Unless your a very experienced driver and know you will over drive the stock stuff, start with the obvious like DOT4 fluid, and pads and drive it to find the weak points for your driving style and level.
I have '16 base stingray, and I recently upgraded to the Wilwood Big Brake kit after getting brake fade at Sonoma Raceway. Made a couple youtube videos about it, here's the unboxing

I eventually did a day at Laguna Seca, and had zero brake fade. Very happy with the results
Michael,
Did you notice any difference with the added unsprung weight?
The AP setup is hard to beat. I was having issues with the z06 brakes not holding up on the track. I just put the AP's on and have only run one track day but they still look like new.
