"...over 30 hp by just adding this filter..." Wanna bet who "generated" this number?
A company should be fined big time for putting crap like this out to the people like a lot of them do. OP not to say that the stock filter couldn't use or need some help but this 30 rwhp for this filter is crap for what they are saying here. Robert
Great filter. If I were to ditch the AFE intake and go back to a stock airbox drop-in (which I have no plans of doing), this would be the filter I'd choose. I'd likely also go this route if I were to ever add a Procharger which connects to the stock airbox.
+30whp on the LT4 is believable as I've seen others posting similar gains with competing products. Need to remember that the LT4 is basically breathing through the LT1's intake system (identical factory box & filter).
I have had this filter installed for a over 200 miles and my car feels much more responsive and seems to accelerate a lot more aggressively. Granted this is all seat of the pants gauging but the improvement is very noticeable. Also, the quality of this filter is pretty nice.
On a completely bone stock LT4 I could see it pick up 30 HP. The larger opening in the base of the filter would slow down the air a bit which the MAF would interpret as less air, therefore leaning the car out some. Most of this would be negated after the fuel trims adjusted. Then the free-er flowing filter will allow the roots style blower to draw air in easier therefor picking up a little power too. After the ECU learns the new fuel trims I would think most of this would be negated. And the pressure release valve on the LT4 blower would bleed off boost at some point if the car made more boost due to a free-er flowing intake tract.
I did something similar a yr ago.I was a beta tester for the BMS dry media filter.
What I did was simply run each filter 300 miles and see if I felt any diff.IMO...the OE filter is of poor construction,The K&N is made well, but is a "wet" filter and the BMS was of superior quality, uniform pleats and is a "dry" media filter.
I chose the BMS for my LT1.Maybe a few ponies more, but the quality sold me.
I was given the BMS & K&N and did not receive any compensation.
