Default OnStar removal

So my car called Onstar this weekend at the track and I have no way to communicate to them as my car has no speakers or mic.

they eventually called my cell so I could tell them not to send emergency services.

I would like to remove anything to do with onstar on the car so it doesn't happen again. I found the how to removal for the C6 but not one for the C7's.

Yanking the module out will cause a break in the CANbus network. You'd need to rig a bypass plug to keep the bus intact.

Pulling the antennas isn't perfect, but it's easier than dealing with the electrical consequences.

If you canceled your OnStar subscription OnStar sends a signal to the system telling it to not make any calls. The only thing the system will respond to is the button on the mirror used to call an OnStar sales agent. Disconnecting the electrical connector going to the mirror will deactivate that button. The other thing you can do is disconnect the cellular antenna and the car won't have any way to connect to anything. The cellular antenna is located under the IP near the center of the base of the windshield.

The Communication Module itself is located in the passenger side footwell behind the door sill garnish molding near the BCM. When removing first remove the module battery then remove the module.

Removing the cellular radio module from inside the ON Star module will allow the retention of the Bluetooth feature. If you remove the entire OnStar module, you will also loose the Bluetooth.

(Old thread but) there's an alternative method to disable onstar that works for the C6 and should work for the C7 (and likely all others):

I was planning on removing the entire module but honestly kind of forgot about it. It hasn't been an issue since and my car's been all over getting stuff done to it and going to events I just haven't had the time. Thats for reminding me. if i have the time ill see what happens when i pull the entire module out.

Just remember you have to keep C4 plugged in (or jumper the canbus pins in it) or else the car won't start.
