Default Z07 to Z06 Spring Change?

Hello all,

I am looking to swap the leaf springs in my Z07 with the standard Z06 springs. I know I will have to swap the front and rear springs, sway bar bushings, and probably get an alignment. Also worth noting that the car has the DSC sport on it. My question is do I need to do anything else?

In case you are wondering why I want to switch, it is because I daily mine on less then ideal roads and have no use for the extra stiffness in the colder months. I will switch back when it gets hotter and I start tracking again.

Seems like that would work. I'm doing the opposite now myself.

I have heard some hear say that that all the computer are calibrated differently to for z07 vs z06. Any knowledge of this? I am thinking it isn't true.

For springs ? I am sure it is a different calibration but probably minor. I wouldn't worry about it. The DSC controller does it all if you already got it. To be honest you probably would do fine without the DSC controller too.

I swapped z51 to z06 springs and my controller is still on the shelf after 1000 miles. Search for threads I've started for notes on the swap.

Ok good to know. Will I need any specialty tools to make the swap?

You will need to buy a new eccentric bolt for the rear and need a sawzall to cut the old bolt off. A high torque electric impact wrench helped a butt load with removing stuff. Also a torque wrench capable of about 160 ft lbs for the caliper bolts.

Also the front spring clamp bolts are apparently 1 time use, buy 4 more of those.

Read my threads on more notes.

That is a lot of work to go through for a slightly less stiff ride. Have you tried to find somebody with a base Z06 to see if rides any softer over the roads you use? You may find out making the switch isn't worth it.

Bills right. You won't feel it any softer with z06 springs and stock controller than DSC sport set to 0 and z07 springs. Just rode in my friends Z07. It isn't much tighter than my Z06 springs. Maybe my car on sport mode. He doesn't have the DSC controller or mag ride update.

It's true that the eDiff, PTM, and some other systems are calibrated differently but that is oriented towards the edge of the performance envelope on track. I doubt you will notice a difference.

It occurs to me that the Z07 (FE7) shocks are different and have a different dynamic range. That means you can't soften them up as much as the FE6 shocks even with the DSC controller. You might want to play with the controller and see if you can soften the shocks up enough to make the ride acceptable. If that doesn't work maybe try a set of FE6 shocks to see if that plus the controller will work before you go through the effort of changing springs and bushings. I'll probably be selling the stock FE6 shocks that came off my GS since I'm putting the Tractive shocks on.

I know quite a few ppl with standard z06s but they are all garage queens and never go above 80mph. It hurts to see.

I havent messed with my DSC at all. Is the preloaded tune on in set at 0 in the plush mode?
