Default C7 Wavetrack

Need help deciding if I should upgrade to the Wavetrack Diff, or keep the stock Diff. I have a set of 3.90 gears ready to install. I'm keeping the stock cam, and no forced induction plans.
Current Mods
Ported Intake Manifold
Ported Throttle Body
Mid length Headers 2 Hi-flow Cats
Akrapovic x-pipe No Cats
Cartek Tune

Future Mods
E85
possibly ported heads

The power level you are going to be at, I would say the OEM should be fine. I am NA boltons also with mods you listed above and haven't had any issues with many 1.5x 60ft times at the track so far. A little over 500rwhp range

Guess I should have mentioned I am A8 also. 3.90 gears on a manual would for sure hit the rear harder than the A8

That's what I'm concerned about. I do have MT 18" Drag radials, the softer sidewall should help. I hope there's no wheel hop, that's the main culprit.

I agree with the above guy to a point but if you dump the left foot at to much of a high RPM I still think sooner are later you will toast those two small gears. I did the wavetrac but you could do the 4 gear set up and will be safe. Robert

There's probably quite of few guy's with over 500 rwhp using the stock rear. I'm only at 426 rwhp 436 rwtq.

You're probably right. I'm not familiar with the 4 gear set up, sorry. Does that have something to do with the 4 spider gears?

I wonder how that screws up PTM if your car has the eDiff. On a strip probably not an issue but on the street or a road course might make a difference.

Just out of curiosity, is it fine to wait for your spider gears to bust then replace them with the 4 gear set up? Or will that likely cause other significant damage and should be replaced pre-emptively? I think mine are near the end of their life and was kind of hoping just to run till fail then upgrade.

I'm going to use the stock rear with 3.90 gears for now. I'll change the rear later, after I port the Heads, and install Flex fuel E85, or if it breaks. I would be delighted, if I get 50+ passes with the stock rear. If I had 840 hp I would change it before it breaks. The stock parts might even be good to sell.

Thanks for your feedback.

blue_bomber697,

That was a very good question that you asked.

When they fail it will look like a grenade exploded inside your diff. All the pieces of the spider gears will cause catastrophic damage to everything else, resulting in a very expensive total rebuild, versus just replacing the original spider gears now with the better ones.

So, yes, as you were thinking, you would want to preemptively replace them now.

Nobody sells the 4-spider setup, the folks that have done this have done it themselves by helping each other and researching options.
I want to perform this 4-spider setup as well, before my diff breaks from repeated drag launches at 700+RWHP.

Can anyone tell me if the spider gears & crosspin from a 2015 corvette (NOT equipped with G96 eLSD) are the same as the spiders/pins for the cars that ARE equipped with the eLSD, like my 2016 z06/a8?
I have a differential located that I can buy cheap but i want to make sure the spiders and pin are the same.

PLEASE HELP! :-)

Thanks!

I have the info you need including part numbers. Spider gears all the same for non Z06. Unknown part number for Z06 gears. Pins different from base to Z51/eLSD as well as other parts. I’m on the road another day but when I get home I can help you. Send me a PM as a reminder if you would. Thanks

Ant
