On my way out of town for a track event at NOLA my '17 GS started running very rough, the check engine light came on and a service rear axle message appeared. I have replaced the fluid months ago as part of my maintenance and have had no other issues or codes. I'm pretty certain I could have pulled the battery contacts and carried on but because I was also attending my daughters graduation Saturday, the actual reason for my trip, I returned it to the garage and took my sedan. After abusing my sedan on the awesome track and the city's potholes and dips all weekend I came to wonder if the car knew where I was going and just refused to be a part of it. I will take it in to get the codes scanned as it might be something needing action but it has left me wondering how loyal my car is after my former racetrack mistreatments.

It actually has nothing to do with the rear axle. That is one of the first warnings that will come on when you have a mis fire, which I assume you do because you mentioned it was running rough. Check the basics like a spark plug wire that fell off or a cracked spark plug. If those check out fine, it's more than likely an injector based on how many we've seen over the last couple years. If you're still under the bumper to bumper warranty, injectors are a covered item.
Tow it to the dealer. Mine did the same thing and in the 8 miles it took me to get home dropped a valve. Better safe than sorry. That said RichieRichZ06 knows a lot more about them than I do.

It can be many things, bad spark plug, bad spark plug wire, plug wire off, DI Injector failure, and yes even the rear diff going bad. I have had EVERY issue except the diff going bad. But again I have a big build, so not typical for most stock engines. Just check to ensure your plug wires are all on, you can even pull them off and check resistance. I know my MSD 8.5 wires should show about 50 ohms per wire. Measure your stock wires the majority should give you a baseline, if one is way off, theres your problem. Also just check spark plug insulator, I had a fine crack in mine hard to even see, but that caused this issue.

Dealer checked for codes today and came back nil. She said no code had set. I'm hoping a bit of something in an injector caused the grand mal. Poured some techroline in, filled it up and pulled on to the freeway. Thanks for the input, if anything else shows I'll post it.
