Default '14 C7 overheating

Last night on my way home from Pocono my Vette started overheating due to the electric cooling fans not coming on while stuck in traffic on the GWB. They were working fine all weekend. Water temp went all the way to 260 and put engine in limp mode. I got on a zebra stripe where i was able to get out and verify the fans were not on. After shutting it down for five minutes I restarted it and the fans came on enough to cool it down to normal temp and get me off the bridge. After that, the traffic broke up and I was able to get it the rest of the way home with no issues. However once i got home i let it idle in my driveway and the same thing started to happen again. Once the water hit 230 I shut it down again. I have the GM Platinum used car warranty and I only purchased this car a few months back. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Any advice would be appreciated.

VERY common problem with the 2014 Corvette, quick solution is to turn it off and back on again but the real fix is to replace the fan assy with a newer style one. Search and you will find many have had the problem and they have posted the solution with part numbers and costs.

Default 2014 Overheating

I have a C7 (2014) Coupe 2LT / A6

Been following the comments regarding overheating issues. There seem to be a lot of theories regarding the cause of overheating. Some even think it's a "isolated" problem. It may be isolated; but if you are the unfortunate soul, stranded by the road in you $60,000 + baby. That is of little consolation. There is obviously some sort of issue here. I had the same unpleasant experience last week. My car has 3,000 miles on it. I was running around 60mph thru some posted 45mph turns in "Sport" mode. No problem. Curvy roads were for about 10 miles. When road straightened out, I was at my destination. Within 5 minutes my car was spewing coolant, chiming, telling me "AC off" and "change oil." Had the car towed 30 miles to nearest Chevy dealer. 115 miles from home. These seem to be common symptoms. Awaiting dealer call. Come on GM...give us a fix!

Just curious, is the upgraded fan plug and play? Or do you have to install new software?

Is this a factory fix? Will my dealer have a TSB for it?
Car has extended warranty, so I hope this is a GM TSB issue so warranty will cover it.

The condition we are talking about is a "No Fan" situation. You drive at highway speed for a while, then you hit a traffic jam and you immediately go bumper to bumper on the interstate. The fan is supposed to come on because the air has stopped going through the radiator as a result of the highway speed. Shutting the car off and opening the door to kill the RAP will fix the problem. When you restart the car the fan comes on screaming to cool the car down.

If your car puked it's guts out with the fans running, you have another issue. In your case, I say t-stat stuck closed.

The fan replacement is PnP. just take out the old one and put in the new, all fixed.

My car just had the fan fail situation. Once i shut down, opened the door then restarted the fan came on and everything went normal but it did do it again 35 minutes later.

I'm curious about the TSB because i too have the chevy platinum warranty and i paid alot for it!

I could not convince the dealer that I EVEN HAD a problem. There is no TSB on this condition that I know of. I did the logic and concluded that I needed to replace the fan and controller myself because the dealer couldn't replicate the issue. I had it happen twice and twice I went to a dealer (different) and NADA. So I bought the damn thing and spent an hour in my garage swapping out the part.

Thanks for the helpful info Elmer. I made a service appointment for next week but I'm reasonably sure nothing is going to come of it because i couldn't even duplicate the condition yesterday. Either way I'm going to order the new fan assembly after it comes out of the shop if they don't do anything. Took a look at it last night, looks fairly easy to change. Thanks again.

I would. I plan on changing mine after my little fiasco. But I'm going to wait until after the dealer looks at it.

YES!!!!! The OLM uses operating temp to determine when to change oil. If it went down that fast that means the oil got really hot and is basically toast due to the heat. My oil temp gets into the mid 270s on the track all the time and the OLM drops faster than driving on the street but it never dropped that fast. Mobi1 breaks down when the temp exceeds 320 degrees so you need to change the oil.

What does your OLM say? If the OLM doesn't show you needing an oil change, then leave it alone. The other situation was a bad overheating situation and the OLM says the oil got too hot and needs to be replaced. I go until it starts to nag me when I start the car. I hate being nagged!

It says 67% dropped from 75% But my oil pres seems lower at operating temp now than before (under 30 at idle, 20 when hot oil temp 210) was never that low before. But I've onky had this car 2 months so i still have new owner paranoia.

I have been looking high and low for the replacement fan for my 2014 Stingray and every single web store gets them from GM parts. They are not making them right now and these are nowhere to be found. I am doing a national search of junk yards to find a totaled C7 having this fan. No luck so far. I was on the highway then stopped dead still for 20 minutes at a construction delay. Fortunately, I knew to shut down and restart and when restarted the fan came on howling fast. The temp gauge dropped from 260 to normal in seconds. Never heard about opening the door and I did not do that. Thanks only to this forum I knew what do do.

The dealer found no error codes in the computer and obviously could not duplicate it. Claimed they never heard of the issue and there was no service bulletin from GM. I call BS on the dealer saying he never heard of it and BS on GM for not issuing a bulletin.

Now, if anyone has the slightest idea where one of these fans might be hiding, please let me know.
