Default MGW flat stick question

Hey everyone,

I installed a new flat stick shifter today on my c7 grand sport, and its a great improvement. Coming from an S2000 I really missed that silky smooth transmission, and this is still nothing close, but for the amount of torque this transmission has to deal with, I think it feels pretty damn good! But I’ve run into two problems...

1. I can no longer engage reverse with the vehicle off, but when on, everything is fine. Is this an alignment issue? Is the linkage bolt not tight enough (I couldn’t get it any tighter without moving to an extension and I was afraid of stripping it then)? Is there some sort of assistance when engine is on vs off?

2. My check engine light came on. I ran the car without reconnecting parking break, performance management toggler, etc. just to test mechanism before putting everything back. Did this just throw a CEL and will it clear after a few cycles? Is there something else I’d need to do?

Again, thanks for the responses, cheers!

Seems when I put one on my ‘16 Z I recall a warning in the instructions about not being able to engage reverse if alignment instructions were not followed precisely. I might be wrong, I’m old & it’s been 3 yrs since my install. Still debating to do it on my ‘19 Z even tho the MGW is slick compared to “CRAPPY” OE bottom box components. Go back to instructions & let me know if I’m wrong (as usual). PS: I believe the light will self clear or if a code is showing up, just clear it. I also reviewed the install instructions & sounds like you did tighten linkage bolt as tite as you could (they say don't use anything but the wrench tool-no extension) which THEY say could prevent going into R if not tite & aligned with the half moon cutout which should be facing driver side. Good luck!

The car has a reverse lock-out mechanism that (I believe) is active when the car is moving forward above a certain speed. Since new, my car has intermittently behaved as you describe. Don't know why, but sometimes when the car is off this blocking mechanism won't allow reverse selection. Since everything works properly when the engine is running, I don't worry about it.

Thanks for the info/responses. After a few on/off cycles the CEL has gone and reverse can now be engaged when on/off. Don’t know what happened, but I’m not going to complain, cheers!
