Default Starter wiring question

I just installed LG long tubes on my '17 GS. It has taken quite some time as I've had tremendous issues getting them to go in. I pulled the normal things apart (fuse box, covers, starter, oil sump lines, etc.). As normal, I used my phone to take tons of pictures as I was taking things apart. This was all done in December.

So now that I've got the headers in (finally) and all the new heat shielding done, I have started putting stuff back on. Putting the starter back in, I have the large positive cable coming down from above and the plug for the solenoid. However, in addition, there is a braided wire coming off the starter motor hovering near a second bolt on the solenoid. So I pull out my phone to look at the picture I took of the wiring end of the starter and....crap....not a single picture of anything related to disassembling prep. Nothing. NADA! I don't know where they went, but based on how much of a pain the rest of this has been, I'm not surprised they are gone.

I get the feeling that I just took the ground terminal nut off because I couldn't see what was attached to it and didn't bother to put the wire back under that nut once I had it out. I can't find any trace of another ground wire that should be attaching to that terminal, but I just need to verify I'm right.

Can anyone verify that the only two connections to the starter are the battery positive and the plug going to the back of the solenoid? Thanks!

Paul

Thats correct one wire to the starter with a nut I.e. battery power and one plug for the solenoid

That short bare braided wire goes on the copper colored threaded stud on the solenoid, right next to it. There was no need to take that nut and braided wire off to remove the starter.
This wire is the +12V feed to the starter motor, from the solenoid switch contacts. It is not a ground wire.

Thanks! I had moved a lot of things out of the way to try and get that header in and I just wanted to make certain I hadn't tucked an extra wire away somewhere.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm surprised the +12V is un-insulated but I guess since it's such a short jumper they figured insulating it was unnecessary.

When I was taking the starter out, I couldn't see if there was anything else attached to that stud and I didn't want the starter hanging from a piece of harness so I took it off. I should have put it right back on once I saw there was nothing else there, but I guess I must have figured I'd have my picture to remind me of the wiring. I've never had an entire photo album disappear from my phone so now I've got none of the pics of the fuse box disassembly to go by. I'm pretty sure I can figure it out. Most everything else should be fairly straight forward.

Thanks again for the help!

Hmmm...I've got some heat shrink tubing that will probably fit over the lug. I may just do that too. Can't hurt. Thx.

Yes , I agree it can't hurt ... I just had my car apart to put headers on and while I did not drop my starter I did remove the shield but I could not remember for the life of me if that braided wire was insulated so I just jacked my car up and looked ...

I also googled C7 Corvette starter and looked at pictures just to make sure mine was not one off as my motor was replaced under warranty 2 years ago , everything I saw online also shows that wire insulated
