Default Quarantine projects?

Is anyone else working on any projects while quarantined?

I removed all of my interior trim and dropped it off at a local body shop to get painted some custom colors

Stripped interior

Then I installed my TMOD 5% shifter and lower shifter box

TMOD shifter installed

One thing that always annoyed me about the C7 interior is that the LEDs for heated and ventilated seats are all amber. So I set about changing the LEDs to more appropriate colors, red and blue

Passenger's Seat - Heated - Passenger Control

Passenger's Seat - Vented - Passenger Control

Passenger's Seat - Heated - Center Control

Passenger's Seat - Vented - Center Control

Unfortunately, my soldering seems to have gotten a little sloppy on the top left "vented" LED, which, upon testing, lights up all the time. So I'll get back in there and clean that up

Driver's Seat - Heated

Driver's Seat - Vented

Cheers

I like the led change on the seats. That’s always seemed odd to me. Do you have a DIY on this?

No, I don't really have a write up. It's pretty straightforward, you just get to the circuit boards, desolder the amber LEDs, and solder in the red and blue LEDs.

LEDs on the passenger's control board

Passenger's side LEDs on the center control board

I bought the new LEDs from Mouser. Red and Blue.

What are the specs on the LEDs? I may need to do this to my car.

The links in Post 3 to the replacement LEDs that I ordered should have all the specs

Love that LED change! I have the TMOD lower box; that new shifter of his looks solid.

I just took the cover off mine yesterday and changed out the cabin air filter and swapped throttle bodies.

Thank you! I Just ordered the leds. Since I don’t have it apart. Do the circuit boards come apart easy? Is there screws or is the case glued/snapped together? Any other bits of advice you suggest?

Once you have the parts out of the car, removing the circuit boards is very easy. It's a matter of removing a bunch of Torx screws, I think T7. Getting the parts out of the car is the challenge though. If I wasn't already pulling the interior apart for some custom painting, I wouldn't have done the LED mod. You basically need to disassemble the interior to the same degree that I did in my very first picture to get to the relevant circuit boards, and that alone took me about 3 hours.

So far I have replaced the Intake manifold with a ported LT1 GM manifold, installed a 180* thermostat, replaced the battery, installed the stinger hood stripe, and applied a coat of wax. Oh and I went for a nice drive while quarantining myself and my bride. Still have some more projects on the list.

Update: I tracked down the problem with the blue LED in the top left, and corrected it. Now, all 18 heated and vented seat LEDs work as they should

Driver's Seat - Heated

Driver's Seat - Vented

Cheers

I have the car all apart and waiting on the LED’s to arrive. It was involved to get it all apart but I have time currently. Ironically it was more complicated to get the passenger side apart then the center. At least for me it was. I hope my soldering skills are up to par! BTW, how did you figure out the correct LED’s for this?

I knew they were SMD, so I just measured the footprint (2.0mm x 1.2mm) and found ones that matched. SMD LEDs all have similar specs, for the most part, just differences in size and color.

You'll need a fine point on your soldering iron to have a chance at being successful. Look up some YouTube videos on soldering SMD components to get an idea of what's involved.

Thank you for the tip. I have a friend who is more familiar with this part of the process helping!
