Does the range device prevent shudder in the A8 transmission?
Is it a good addition? What brand do you guys recommend?
Les
Only 1 brand, Range Technologies. It is a commonly accepted here A8s should get this device. It has been reported this device can potentially preclude issues developing within the torque converter.
Does anyone know what advantages or extra features the versions later than 8.6 have? I have the 8.6 now and am curious as to what I would gain by going to a newer version.

Interesting, I was thinking the same thing myself. Might have to contact their tech support people to get an answer. Just wondering if it would be worth upgrading from v8.6.1
I use the range device. Just developed the shudder recently and it was more pronounced when the device wasn't plugged in. Went and got the new tranny fluid installed at the dealer (no charge). Tranny now shifts much smoother and shudder is gone.

Range told me they now have version 9.0. The only difference from v8.6 is v 9.0 covers the 2020 models. V8.6 covers models through the 2019 model year.
The 2020 C8 Corvette has a dual clutch manual trans which acts like an automatic so I think the 9.0 update does 'not' apply to a 2020 corvette.
However, I don't see any reason not to buy the latest edition.
PS: I don't have a range, I do have a DS tuner which can disable the V8/V4 mode (works great) and still run the stock tune and now not have any additional device in the car.
