I don't know if this is specific to the 2019, or C7, or all the modern Vettes, but at random times, that do not appear to have anything to do with how much gas I have in the tank, will do a gas saving thing where it will try to force me to shift from gear 1 to 4. Does anyone know if there is a way to turn that off? I didn't by a Corvette for the gas mileage.
If your RPMs are down under I think 2500 when you shift it will do it everytime. My 2014 did it until I put the Skip Shift Mod on which ellinimates it. Its a $10 fix. There is a Youtube video that explains how to install it but you can get it on ebay or Amazon etc. Just search c7 Skip Shift.

^^^ it takes a $20 aftermarket part called a "skip shift eliminator" to defeat this. Here is the one I installed, but I am sure they all work the same. Takes just a few minutes, but if helps if your car is on a lift (or jack stands).
CAGS = Computer Assisted Gear Selection? More like Completely Annoying Gear Stupidity!
I bought a manual transmission so I can pick my own gears thank you very much you run into more often in slow, daily grind traffic situations.
The CAGS eliminator is the way to go. I didn't think much about the problem when I first got my 19. Then one day I was easing out of a shopping center to turn right onto the road. I was 3 cars back so in 1st. Got to the road and, as I was shifting into 2nd a car who had made a left to flow into same traffic as I came up behind me and I needed to go. Just then it did it's thing, couldn't get into 2nd, 4th is so tall the car won't even accelerate, so I jam it back into 1st. Screw CAGS, I ordered from Southern when I got home.
You can eliminate the problem without spending any money. CAGS is a gas saver that activates only when you are in heavy traffic or driving slowly. The rules for activation are the following:
Engine coolant 171° F or greater
Barometric pressure is greater than 76 kPa
Speed between 15 and 19 MPH
Throttle position is 13% or less
If your speed is above or below that range CAGS won't force a 1-4 shift.
Throttle opening: If you are slightly aggressive on the throttle it will shift into 2nd. It is only when the throttle is being lightly used (for example following another slow moving vehicle) that CAGS forces the 1 to 4 shift. 13% throttle opening isn't very much.
It is easy to train yourself to avoid the situation so 2nd gear is always available. However, in the rare cases where you do mess up and hit it just let the shifter move to the gate for 4th gear, shove forward to the gate for 3rd and then bring it back into second. It is sort of like making a circle with the shifter with it turning counterclockwise. It doesn't take much time and it isn't really a bid deal since you are going slow without any ability to go faster if you were in second.
So save yourself $20 to $25 and don't worry about CAGS. On the C6 CAGS could be defeated by using a blown LED fuse. That was only a couple dollar expense and still too expensive compared to free.
