Default Leaking Power Steering Rack

Just had car in dealership to repair leaking coolant lines. When checking the coolant level tonight I noticed oil around the seals on the power steering motor. Car was originally in to get the transmission flush and fix the rear for the warble. The mechanic did not notice the coolant leak and the car had to go back into shop to get coolant lines replaced. Now I have this going on. Are the dealers mechanics told not to say anything if there is an unrelated problem? Just wondering. Car is a 2019 with A8 and 19,210 miles.

There was a thread which referenced a service bulletin. I have not been able to find either yet.

Try searching General and Tech...

The car has electric steering. No fluid goes into it. The fluid you are seeing would be from something getting onto it. It may have already bee resolved. Clean it up and see if it returns.

The "leak" could be

1) Coolant from the recent coolant line leak. I would expect coolant to be orange Dexcool

2) Hydraulic belt tensioner leak. The belt tensioner is on the front of the engine and they have been known to leak. I would expect oily looking hydraulic oil

3) If grease and not liquid there was a TSB with pictures of some grease that can escape from the steering rack. Small amounts were stated not to be an issue.

I referenced in the thread below, but for some reason the link to the TSB is missing.

TSB

My thought always is to look at the last problem that was worked on. Possibly incomplete repair or cleanup.

Hello Ron,

Thank you for the TSB concerning this. I will go with that I do not have a problem per the bulletin. The coolant line and housing above the steering rack was one of the

ones replaced but as you noted the coolant is orange.

Thanks' again for your help.
