How to remove A8 shift lever?

TIA for any help.

I only need to gain access to the underside of the front panel of the console. I can remove the console door, pop off the left side retainer, remove the triangular cover near the front side, and start to lift the lift the cover, but I can't completely remove the cover without taking off the shift lever ****, since the **** is larger than the hole in the flexible boot.
The procedure for the M7 shift **** removal,(in the above How-to: sticky) doesn't seem to apply for the A8 shifter.
With what you posted, I'm guessing the item #3 "Front Floor Lower Console Replacement" will have that information.
I should have purchased the service manuals the same day I bought the car,
Strangely, Helm doesn't offer online purchases of service manuals, so I'll have to call them tomorrow.
