Default First C7 recommendation

Would like recommendations for my first Corvette and first Track car. Based on what I've seen online you can get a nice C7 Z51 in the low 40k range. You can also get some C7 GS's with some mileage for the low 50's. So pretty much a 8-10k gap between the two models.

My main question is if the C7 with theZ51 package is a good track car. And if the GS really worth the 10k jump? Ive only been to the track twice with a friend in his C6 so its a new interest of mine. Pretty much a track noob.

Will the Z51 be enough over the long term? I guess i could upgrade it with the 10k extra i would pay for the GS and make a better car over time. Just want some opinions and advice before i buy. Thanks in advance!

I was lucky enough to pick up a GS with 7k miles (2LT M7 with the PDR) for high 40s and dont regret making the jump at all. The extra width and tire plus upgraded brakes are fantastic. The GS is the sweet spot I think - the cooling, brakes, etc all feel just right to match with the engines power level.

I have a Z51 but a GS (M7 with the PDR) would make the ideal track car due to its larger brakes and tires. On the flip side consumables will be cheaper on the Z51. Just realize no which you chose much slower cars will be passing you for many sessions until you build up your driving skills. Buying a faster car doesn't automatically make you a faster driver.

Your going to be hard pressed to find a good Z51 in the low 40's. Seems like they went up in value, most are in the mid to high 40's, GS's are in the 50's and 60's which is nuts. You couldn't touch a Z51 with the options I have for less than 47-50 right now. You could also look at a 2018-2020 Camaro SS 1LE.. Those are great too, or a ZL1 for around 47-52k.

How far do you intend to take it? Vast difference between "I'm new and will do 1 or 2 days per year" and "I plan to gut the car to go wheel to wheel racing at a couple dozen events each year"

By the time you get to the point you need to seriously mod the car, neither one will look like what you started with. Both models are extremely capable and both have the ability to suck $100 bills out of your pocket at a rapid pace if your intent is to to set track records every where you go. If you just want to have fun and not be a rolling pylon for better drivers, let consumables and their cost versus your budget be your guide.

Do keep in mind that the GS came with more standard items if that's important to you. All the ordering guides by year are online so you can compare the two.
