So it hasnt happened again since, and I even unplugged the sensor to the fan which I was told if the fan was working fine, it would kick into jet engine mode which it did lol. But I am running between 195-205. I have driven it a few times and luckily no issues again yet.
I found the "engine temp" on the touring display and compared it to the coolant temp on the main gauge. The main gauge went up 220*F and the engine temp gauge went to about 194*F. The question is, where is the "engine temp" reading taken from. Is it a different sensor than coolant temp?
So, I disconnected the coolant temp sensor plug. It was strange, both the coolant temp gauge and the engine temp reading quit, BUT so did the oil temp reading, it went blank also.
I went in to the dealer today and the tech guys didn't know exactly why there is a difference between the engine temp and the coolant temp. But they did say there isn't a different sending unit for the two gauges. They figured maybe one is through the computer and the other one is more direct. Your gauges are different than mine.
