I have a new set of ARH long tubes that will be installed in spring. Should I wrap the Headers to reduce engine room heat or not ? I am also having a A&A Supercharger installed at the same time.
Wrap is the worse thing you could put on stainless steel, if you are going to do anything have them coated
Dave
I hadn’t thought about Ceramic Coating them but now I think I will go that route. There seems to be more and more colors available all the time now too. Found a place very close to me I can just drop them off for a day or two and then pick them back up finished.
So I’ve done some research and different places talk about the ceramic chipping off is anyone else seeing this??
I guess like anything it all comes depends on the prep . I had a little bit of a hard time installing my passenger side header ... i was pushing and trying my best before I figured out what it was hanging up on and I did not even put a scratch in the coating
Wrap is a bad idea. Ceramic coating is fine but it's a bit of a religous debate. You can save some $$ and just buy lava sleeves for your plug wires, nothing else under the hood really gets hot enough to worry about. I've got 2" Kooks LTs (catless), no coating just because of the cost and added wait time, and I've had no problems. OEM plug wires without sleeves at this point. The Kooks fit so well the plug wires aren't all that close to the runners.
OP here all coating is not the same some are cheap and will not last maybe a year & that coating will also crack & do crazy crap. Make sure & see what the heat that the guy is putting onto them is good for. The good stuff is like the guy above is telling you will last for a good long time & not chg color.. Robert
Ceramic coating is the way to go. The coating helps retain the heat within the header, which helps keep the exhaust velocity up. Higher velocity equals better scavenging, scavenging is why you use headers in the first place. You can also have the inside of the header coated as well for more heat retention. From experience using header wrap; the stuff works great, only drawback is it retains moisture when cool and rots out metal, but with stainless this shouldn't be an issue. My experience was with chrome plated headers, within two years they were junk.
Just sayin'.
Not unless you want to reduce the heat and have them still look great two years instead of that unsightly brown color they turn
Dave
I like to rub WD40 on them when hot so that they turn a golden yellow.

Hasn't happened to my C5 Z06, C6 Z06, C7 Z51 or my C7 Z06. It isn't needed, but if people want to coat their headers it isn't going to hurt. Wrapping them would be far better at heat management but it does ruin the finish.
I had mine coated, then scratched the **** out of the coating getting the passenger side past the starter.... big money wasted.
there is a bolt up by the top of the bell housing that holds the wiring harness that was causing the hangup .... ask me how I know.. 🤔 I removed the bolt and my header litterly fell into place
Lucky for me I did not scratch the crap out of my coating , I do have to say mine is pretty hard stuff
