Another HMI module thread... (Updated with Solution)
Hello all,
Sorry to start another thread on this but hopefully my question is a little more direct and can help others in the future.
So I got the dreaded black screen the other day. After reading a million threads I’m pretty confident it’s the HMI.
My symptoms are 100% spot on to Arvinedc ( see below screen shots) so I feel confident moving forward with a HMI replacement.
With that being said, my question to you guys is where and what is my best option for getting a new HMI?? Is it all based on the part number? Or is it simply the programming inside and what options your car has.
Obviously I would like to avoid the dealership for the part itself and I can easily put it in, and as long as my screen fires up after I’ll bite the bullet and has dealer remove theft lock.
I will stick photos of my current HMI below and if you guys could help out with links or any advice for sourcing a replacement I would appreciate it.

You can use any HMI from any car, as long as the part number matches. It is possible to use some newer part numbers, but I don't have a guaranteed interchangeability chart. They're fairly cheap on ebay if you're patient. The bigger problem is programming. These guys should be able to take care of you on that.
If you want OE programming use the dealer, if you want extra feature enabled then use the White Auto Media link. Chris knows his stuff, he was an engineer for GM back in the day if I remember right.
Well I got a message into both white and MVI we'll see what they have to say.
Back to the part number issue... I just got off the phone with the dealer parts guy... he gave me 3 other part numbers listed as a replacement for mine...
8415-6701
8413-1943
8429-6482
All which seem to be a little more readily available then my current... any thoughts?
I think just about any of them will actually work. The part numbers mainly reflect the software loaded on the module. If you update your module, the part number will change. All the GM cars run the same basic software. It's the calibrations files that change it to match your specific model and options. WAAM and MVI will be able to help you with those kinds of questions. Dealers can't really tell you much more than what their parts catalog says.
OK SO UPDATE FOR THE NEXT PERSON THAT RUNS INTO THIS ISSUE:
So first my problem:
- screen black
- all buttons on infotainment system do nothing
- screen still goes up and down
- can still play radio am/fm/Xm if I use steering wheel controls and dash screen.
- audio plays for 10 min then stops until car is reset
So ended up being the HMI for sure. To confirm this get ahold of an GM HMI (doesnt matter make model or options). In my case i grabbed one off ebay for $30. Take that and plug it in, your screen should light up then say "theft lock". If thats the case you have confirmed its your HMI.
SOLUTION: Contact WAMS (White auto and media sales) provide VIN and Part number and they can send you a exact clone for about $550 OR you can have them add all kinds of wild options for extra fees.

One important correction. It does matter to a point.
2014-2015 use version 2.0 HMI.
2016-2019 use version 2.5 HMI.
The main difference is GM added Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to the 2.5 units. You can retrofit the 2.5 units to the 14-15 cars, but you also need to replace the radio and USB socket at the same time.
So if you have a 14-15 car and you're not ready to do the upgrade, make sure you get a 2.0 unit. The units have HMI 2.0 or 2.5 printed in huge font on the front of the unit.
Stay away from 1.1 units. They're early Cadillac CUE parts, and they're useless for a Corvette.

just to clarify, this was only meant for testing purposes, in fact the one I got off eBay was a 1.1 and worked just fine for the test, CUE even came up on the screen 😂

I used MVI for my upgrade to HMI 2.5 with NAV. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Anthony is a great guy. Everything works as expected.

So I have a 2014 Stingray, which hmi part number would I need to upgrade to CarPlay?
where did you buy all this? And what year Corvette did you do this swap in?
There are 3 main players that sell this package and it’s $1299 or $1399
This gives you Factory Nav even if your car didn’t have it originally because as of 10/2022 On-Star quit supporting the head units on 2014 and older corvettes so you may have the icon but when you hit it all you really have is a compass unless you have a car optioned with factory Nav.
VERY IMPORTANT FOR 2014 ONLY
YOU LOOSE HEAD UNIT CAPABILITIES TO CHANGE EXHAUST TUNE IF YOU HAVE NPP
THE WAY AROUND THAT IS BUY THE MILD-2-WILD MODULE ($79) and program it to your home-link on the sun visor.

Yes great service from MVI - I just sent them the VIN and they sent me a pre-programmed new 2.5 HMI and radio box and USB port with installation instructions and now info screen works again and has added Android Auto to a 2014.
