We had a minor impact in a parking lot; grill and splitter were damaged and replaced. Then we noticed the right front camera was blurry and the shop replaced it with an OEM camera. However, as you can tell from the image below, the right camera, in the top-down view (top right of the photo), appears to be rotated slightly, when compared to left left camera. The distance overlay lines provide a great reference against the garage floor tiles.
from what I have read, there are only two screws holding the camera in place and not any room for ‘adjustment’, like rotation etc.
does anyone have any insight into this issue? Thanks.
I installed a set of OEM cameras on my 2014. There is virtually zero slack for adjustment. The only thing I can think of is poor quality control by the camera supplier. The lens is crooked inside the sealed camera housing.
There's a camera calibration procedure listed in the service manual, but I think it's a mistake as all the directions seem to reference the 360* camera systems on the SUVs. But it might be worth mentioning it to the shop to see if they can go through it. I'd be curious to know if it makes any difference.
Did you receive resolution for your camera issue? I have a similar issue. Thank you.
To calibrate the module to the new camera you need a special camera calibration mat EL-51372 and a GM MDI scan tool to control the calibration process. The procedure in the FSM will work for the Corvette even though it doesn't have a surround camera option. The best price I found for the mat is at https://gmtoolsandequipment.com/en-U...earch=el-51372 for $366.00.
It would probably be a lower cost to take the car to the dealer and have them run the procedure. It isn't difficult but the tool cost is enough to make it a dealer service item Vs DIY. Most dealers will have the mat since it works with all of the vehicles they service and given all of the trucks and cars they sell there are probably a lot of cameras that are damaged or failed they replace.
I took it to the dealer today and they have offered to replace the grill. The cameras are pre installed on this grill and the one they have available. We’re deciding if it is worth taking the front apart again for a replacement that might or might not solve the problem.
Based on my photo, will the recalibration fix the issue?
I can't say for sure but that is the purpose of doing the calibration using the calibration mat. The mat has to be placed at precise locations around the car as you are calibrating each camera front left, front right, rear. The camera views the pattern on the mat and then adjusts any differences in the signal to get to the known signal for the mat.
