I just bought a 2017 GS a8......i was wanting to possible do some mods to it, nothing crazy but figured tuning would be the best option, has anyone used HPtuners? I hear good things about them.....I just want to get the most out of the car .
thanks in advance

That’s pretty much the only thing that is used besides EFILive.
I got an HPtuner a few months ago and was going get a mail order tune. Haven't had the chance to, but played around a little and just disabled DOD for now. I like it, and now I'm hoping East Coast Supercharging can use it to do an in person tune instead. I wish I had the time to learn to tune, but my limited knowledge and time makes it too hard. I think the hptuner is worth it though.

These are a beast to learn as a DIY'er but not impossable
Did BTR Stage 1 w AFM/DOD delete, E85, Retain VVT, Headers and Mid X pipe, CAI, TCM unlock recently with supporting head work. The canned tunes they used so far aren't cutting it. Made the car not fun to drive and regretting dropping the $$$ for the work. I bought the HP MPVi2 and had them tweak the tunes a few times rather than make the trip back to the shop.

Canned tunes hardly ever work right off the bat and will require tweaking. It will take extensive back and forth, especially if you tune the VE tables. MAF only still requires some VT/VE work to run properly.
A canned tune will never work with a cam car. Get a remote tuner that knows what he/she is doing with cammed Gen V's. HPtuners forum is the place to find them.
Back in 2004 when I started tuning, there was HPT, EFI live, Autocal, and some other brand.
Its just kind of a leap of faith to choose either HP Tuners or EFI Live. Both have a learning curve, but are great tools to use. You may find more help from us older guys with HP Tuners.
Just so you understand, HP Tuners is just the software used to make changes to the ECM/TCM. It doesnt do anything on its own, it is completely dependant on the user to know what they are doing and what tables to modify. To someone who doesnt know what they are doing it is very possible to damage a engine or transmission using the software.
So either be OK doing lots of reading on the web, taking online classes or asking questions. People will offer help, but they wont tune for free. Otherwise team up with a reputable remote tuner and they can get you setup.

If you have your cable linked to your vin we can use it so you do not have to pay for credits again. We do that fairly often actually, a lot of people buy HP or EFI Live, open it, license it, then schedule with us since they are not looking for a part time job to learn it for one car lol.
