I landed from a work trip at about 11:30 last night and tried to remote start my car and it wouldn't turn on... weird.
Then I get in and the check engine light is on. I used a DiabloSport tuner ECM P050D code. Then I remembered one day when I was poking around in the engine bay I saw this little part that was broken and it was hanging off... So I have a few questions
Could these be correlated?
What is this piece exactly? I've tried to find it with the part number. I found the tube, but not the sensor or whatever that part is.
I don't think the code is related to the breather or the failed remote start. I'm sure everyone will be along shortly to blame the battery.
DTC P050
DCold Start Rough Idle
Circuit/System Description
During a cold start, the engine control module (ECM) commands dual-pulse mode during Open Loop operation to improve cold start emissions. In dual-pulse mode, the fuel injectors are energized twice during each injection event. As with misfire diagnosis, in dual-pulse mode the ECM monitors the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor to calculate crankshaft rotation speed. In normal operation, optimum fuel delivery during dual-pulse mode produces a steady crankshaft rotation speed. If the variations exceed a calibrated value, the code will be set.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
This DTC will set if the engine control module detects variations in crankshaft rotation speed caused by the lack of adequate fuel delivery during dual-pulse mode.
Thanks. It's not the battery, it didn't remote start because of the check engine light/code.
I did find the part is PCV Valve and found this...
Look for vacuum leaks or signs of cracked or collapsed vacuum hoses and lines. Listen for hissing or sucking noises. Also, make sure you listen to the throttle body, intake manifold gasket, brake booster and the PCV valve.
I am hoping I get lucky and if I replace it it clears the code.
So for the error code, I removed the negative battery wire and reset it and the check engine light went away.
I actually got the wrong part. I thought it was PCV valve but it’s not. It looks like the part that’s broken is actually part of the larger plastic part, so I’m on the hunt to see what that is.
It is the vacuum port that is a part of the air intake Hiemholtz box. You could remove the fitting from the hose and use a good epoxy to repair it or replace the whole system with an aftermarket CAI.
Will not remote start with check engine light on! That broken tube will set the light and cause poor running due to un measured air going to the engine
