Default Scan tool recommendation

This is embarrassing, but I have never had a scan tool. I want to get one that will cover my 2017 Cadillac, 2019 Corvette and 2020 GMC Sierra 1500. Don’t want the cheapest - want good quality, but not more than I’d need at home. Thanks!

Blue driver seems to work real well. You can leave it plugged in. And your cell phone will pick it all up. Including intermittent problems. Cost maybe 120.00 at most.

I've a $25-$30 Autel I've had for years that works perfectly fine... no frills, but does the job. SOOOOO many options today. All the best.

So I tried out one of those cheap $15 bluetooth scanners and bought the TorquePro app for $5 bucks.

This $20 combo is one of the better "cheap" scanners I use. Won't get granular into the ABS or anything like that, but it's great for everything else.

Scangauge has been very useful for me. You can scan codes and also monitor different values from your engine if you want. Been using one for 4 years without any issues.

If you’re looking for a great scan tool that can do more than just extract trouble codes, check out the AUTEL 808BT. It’s a comprehensive diagnostic tool. Besides trouble codes and TPMS use, It has bi-directional mode that can test many components such as raising/lowering windows for testing switches and motors, relearning the transmission control module and the HVAC system and many more. I have this one.

Thanks all! There is definitely a wide range and these look to be good examples of both ends of the spectrum. Is there a good middle ground unit in the $ 200.00+/- price? Thanks again!

The VCX Nano is a good tool

.

It provides GM MDI GDS2 scan tool capability but you do need a laptop to use it. It will let you work with any GM car built since 1997 as it covers older models with a simulation of a Tech II. It will work with the GM online tech line diagnostic site where you can purchase 3 day access to the GM tools for $57 https://www.acdelcotds.com/subscriptions#.

It lets you do diagnostics on the complete car Vs just OBD II and maybe ABS or Airbag. You basically get the same capability the GM mechanic has in the service bay. The downside is it is from China and although they have improved their instructions over the last few years it can still be hard to understand what you need to do when loading the software on your laptop. Instructions with poor English structure or in pure Chinese can leave you foundering for a while. One benefit is as they update the software you are able to download/install the new version.
