Default Looking for new pistons

I have a 2017 Grandsport that’s been supercharged. I now have 4 cracked pistons and am looking for replacements. I had some Diamond pistons on order from Brian Tooley Racing, but now the pins are back ordered for 3 months. Any ideas on where to go now? I don’t order stuff like this all the time, so I’m hoping for some good direction from you guys that do this more often. Thanks.

If you're looking for pistons in general, I'd call a couple of the manufacturers....Ross, Wiseco, Mahle, and others....and see what they say. You'll get the straight scoop on where to buy and availability.

If you're looking specifically for Diamond, I'd call them directly as well.

Good ideas. Thanks, I’ll do that.

So just toss the LT1? This isn’t a complicated repair and I’m not looking to spend that much. The LT1 will be fine once the rings are gapped properly and not cracking the pistons any more.

I'm just curious to what led to the cracked pistons. Too much boost? We read everywhere hp limits and boost limits when followed are safe for the lt1 ring gap so I'm just curious if yours was an exception or were you pushing more than standard?

I don't think it was too much boost. 5 psi. 700 rwhp. But it was the ring gap issue that caused this. So draw from that what you can. I hope that helps.

There it is. It's a ticking time bomb to push stock LT1 Pistons over 600hp etc. Sure, you can do it, many guys will say they do. Play the lottery you can win also...

There are many opinions on where the line is for stock internals. My opinion is that the stock internals would have been fine in my car if the rings had been gapped properly. I wasn’t the one who supercharged the car and I didn’t know about the ring issue until I had the problem. That’s on me.

You were well over 5psi with stock or aftermarket headers/exhaust. Ide say 10+ minimum

I went with the Vengence set. I’ve found it’s very hard to find just drop in pistons and only slightly easier to find drop in piston/rod sets. The vengeance pistons are made by mahle. The rods are someone else and I can’t remember it right now. Waiting on the mechanic shop now.

I guess I'm one of the many. 2014 Z51, at 60k Procharged with a P1 590 hp. At 108k cam, e85, D1X and LT4 fueling, 730 hp. Odometer about to hit 130 now. Daily driven and runs great.

You will be fine at your power level , you only have to worry when you start to cross over the 600 HP bridge

Ring gaps are tight , if u run high boost you can pop a ring land ...
