Default C7 Theft Attempted

Yesterday when I started the car the DIC displayed "Theft Attempted". There were no signs that anyone had messed with the car, so I figured it was a random message and pressed the "Dismiss" button.

When I started it this morning the same message appeared. I pressed the "dismiss" button again. I started it a third time about 2 hours later - no message.

Any ideas? Is this a precursor to something about to happen in the anti-theft system? I've not found anything on the forum concerning this and the owner's manual doesn't even show this as being a message.

Thanks

John

Are you using a windshield shade by any chance? Heat waves can move it slightly triggering the motion sensor.

Thank you to Stevettec7 and drives with two feet.

The battery is new this past March.

But I did have the sunshade up for the first instance. Second was in my garage at home and no sunshade - I figure there was a code hanging in the memory somewhere.

So the shade is most likely the problem. I have been using the shade for years and this is the first time that message has appeared.

How do I turn off the sensor?

Thank you - John

Wouldn't hurt to go into Content Theft Deterrent data in the Body Control Module to see what the trigger was.
I don't recall ever seeing any glass break sensors on the quarter windows (honestly, haven't looked) but the BCM will use the door window position sensors as well as the rear defroster grid to sense window movement or glass break on the rear window. An intermittent open circuit or high resistance in the defroster grid circuit could trigger CTD.
