Having an issue with my driver side rear taillight, its happened 3 times where it turns off, brake lights, reverse lights and turn signal still work but the running light doesn’t. I also noticed my trunk lights aren’t on sometimes either. Sometimes i turn the lights off and then turn them back on and the taillight will work again, any advice?
Side markers are stock, and i believe so are the trunk lights, but my tag lights are led and very bright
This shouldn't cause your problem. FWIW, I installed LEDs in the trunk and tag lights but removed them as they caused a low voltage fault in my diagnostic scanner (no codes on the dash). They probably don't hurt anything, I just don't like something that causes a fault to show up so I figure the bang for the buck isn't worth it. And they were labeled "CANBUS safe". These cars can be sensitive to any changes to the system no matter how small and seemingly insignificant. This is what the trunk and tag light faults looked like in the scanner with LEDs (lamps were working properly):
So do you recommend me removing the tag lights and putting them original. Cause sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn’t. But since its a taillight its hard to tell when it is on or not, i just want to find a solution
I never had the taillight challenges you're having and many members here use LEDs without an issue. But removing them and replacing with the recommended incadescent bulb wouldn't hurt just to help eliminate a potential cause, plus it's easy and you'd know for sure they're not the source of your problem. There are a lot of intelligent diagnostic guys on here, but seeing perfectly working LEDs can result in a voltage or ground error that shows on a diagnostic scanner tells me there is a potential for a cause/effect with the CANBUS system.
Personally I'd remove them for now and just see - you can always add them back if they're that important to you.
Ok sounds good, i’m going to remove the bulbs from the trunk and tag light and see if the problem continues to occur. I had a feeling about a bad ground but once i notice its off, i just turn the lights off and turn them back on and they work so i figured can’t be a ground. I’m going to try what your recommending and see if it solved the problem
