Has anyone had a Range Finder that failed?

It's not a common thing to happen. I've not seen a report that I can recall where the unit failed. People have bought from ebay or 2nd hand and have had problems with the version and such but a purchace from the source usually functions as advertised or they make it good without a fuss.

I sold mine for half what I paid for it, IIRC. Was glad to get rid of it once I found out how the fiery works. That does mean that if the buyer wants any updates, it has to go through me. Not sure if you want to do that.

Problem is one thing. Updates are different. Remember when you had that battery drain issue? Used, I can't do anything with. If there was a case of an update, especially for the newer cars, you might find it handy that I am willing to do the free update for you. Call it value added. After all, the buyer deserves a break considering that I sold it because it does things I don't consider good.

I noticed when I plugged it in that the far left light blinked once, then the far right one blinked 3 times. And that was it. I thought they all came on when it was plugged in??

im not sure what updates would be needed. the range device I bought worked on 14-19 c7 and hasn't missed a beat. I only wanted the 4 cyl deactivated it does that. not aware of it doing anything else . as it goes im having the dod/afm tuned out in the ecu since the tuner is in there anyway so ill not have a need for any obd device

I don't know. There were those who said that it required an update or you would run your battery down. See THIS thread.

guess I have been lucky then. I leave the range device in 24/7. haven't had a trickle charger on the car in a couple months just to lazy to plug it in lol. starts every time and my car will sit for weeks at time before I get a chance to drive it

Don't know. Either way, that silly thing is out of my car which I am happy about. I guess my kicking it when getting in and out is a sign

I got my Range direct from them a few months ago and the box said to remove it the car is not driven for a few days. I don't want to take the chance so I do remove it from time to time.
This question may sound stupid but is there a "wear and tear" in the port and the Range itself from inserting and pulling often, you know like any orifice?

I would think so. If you are removing it every drive, it can be an issue. IDK about your idea but I would not remove it unless I had to or I accidentally kicked it.
