What does the manual call for .....( If u don't have one you can download it )
no sense in changing from what it was designed to use since the A6 has been around for a long time and there are a lot of cars and trucks that have an A6
That's what I was thinking,,,,,, but GM has made some changes in fluid in the last few years and I just wanted to make sure the auto 6 speed didn't change.

Yep , they made changes to the A8 fluid to try and stop the "shudder" but I would not use that fluid in an A6
Going to do a A6 2014 trans fluid change. Is the ACDelco Dexron Vl 10-9394 still the go to fluid?
If that's the current fluid on a Chevy dealer's shelf, it's the right one. Dealer's don't tend to stock more than they need for a 2-3 year supply. That trans went out of production in 2014 after 8 years of use in Vette's, but possibly longer in other cars/trucks.
I got the kit.... ACDelco fluid 10-9394 Dexron VI, filter and gasket. I made my own fill hose, on/off valve, setup. Going to try the gravity method.
If anyone needs the brass fitting with the M12 x 1.75,,,,,,,, I have extra ones.

Make it easier on your self to fill and get one of these pumps ... you are going to have to empty the pan before dropping it anyway ... they are like 9 bucks and work great
Dave
I have one of those pumps, I am going to try the gravity method and see how that works. Crossing my fingers.
I'm just not sure how to tell when the fluid temp reaches 100* F
Scan tool or use the DIC display.
If none of the above is available or works you can measure the trans pan temp at the middle bottom with a thermocouple that is properly attached. Hand held point and shoot temp gauges are not accurate in this situation.

As stated above, the Trans temp is available in the driver information center , change it to Tour and then use the up button on the steering wheel to flip thru the guages displayed in the center of the tach , I think it's the one that is 2nd to the end
Well that was fun. The funnel idea was a bust. I think I used to small a hose. I started gravity filling the trans but it was taking way to long so hooked up the hand pump, and even that took a while.
The rear 3 bolts were very hard to get to, I guess I have small hands so I finely got them. The corner one is the most difficult, impossible to get a torque wrench on that one. I used a small 10 mm open/closed end wrench, you can get just a tiny turn on the bolt switching back and fourth between the ends.
I had to modify a 1/4" 10 mm socket to torque the other two. I cut the socket down and made it shorter then used a 1/4" swivel extension. Picture. A stubby 10 mm swivel socket might have worked.
I was a little shocked,,,,, when I removed the pan the oil look very clean, ;(
Questions about trans oil service. 1. Is the fluid quantity/level really that critical?
2. Can you run the trans for a few seconds with the pan off to get more fluid out of the trans?

2 - Nooooooooooooo , its not ok , what would u hope to accomplish? draining just the pan, clean the magnet and changing the filter has been the standard for years . Don't over think this and your trans will thank you
1- Do not underfill it , thats not ok , its ok to be a lttle bit over but not to much ....
I haven't heard what would happen if you put it in gear for just a few seconds with the pan off. The goal would be to get more old fluid out of the trans during a fluid change.

It's not a good idea at all ...., if u want a complete change of fluid then get a full flush done , but on an A6 it is completely a waste of time and money , starve the pump and you will wish u did not have such a great idea
To put it in perspective would drain your oil and then start your engine ??
Ok,,,,, just a thought. I finished the trans fluid change yesterday and figured out I didn't really need to do it. Very clean fluid. I just got the 2014 this summer and wanted to make sure the fluids were all ok.
IS that the metric? While the A6 transmission is not as affected as the A8, the old fluid is more hygroscopic so I wouldn't rely on smell or looks. Sure, nice that the pan is clean but that old fluid might be sucking more moisture in. If time degrades the additives in the fluid, does it change color?
