So I'm in the middle of an engine teardown to replace the factory oil pump with an upgraded katech unit. While I am in there, I have been bouncing around the idea of throwing in a bigger more aggressive camshaft as I also recently have installed an aftermarket converter. For reference, I have a 3000-3200 stall from Circle D. I currently have a BTR stg 2 cam with a 227/242 duration with a 115 LSA. The new revised BTR stg 3 cam has specs of 228/25X, .648"/.648", 113 LSA. My question is if anyone has used this cam and how it runs, drives, and sounds. I am looking for an aggressive cam that will sound very aggressive while also providing more power throughout the entire rpm range, most importantly the peak power range. I know a bit about camshafts and what to look for, but I'm sure those of you who are more experienced than me can provide me with some input. Also, if anyone has an idle clip of this new revised stg 3 cam from BTR, it would be greatly appreciated too as I am looking for a cam that sounds a little more aggressive than what I am currently running. Any input or suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks!
I have a BTS stage 3 23x/24x .64x"/.63x 114 +5 , im not sure if that's similar enough to what your asking or not, it was installed in march of last year.

I'm definitely looking fro any input on the cam I mentioned, but I am open to others, trying to find the best cam for me as of now. I've talked to my tuner and he said the old BTR stg3 was a good choice, so I wouldn't mind hearing about how it is working for you. How's the drivability and are you a manual or auto? Also, if you have a sound clip you wouldn't mind posting, that would be great. Thanks in advance
Thanks, i really like it a lot. Speec inc built this package
It's a manual car. Drivability is pretty good. It does shake the car at idle, stop lights etc. First gear can take some getting use to, it does give you some bucking and it can be annoying. It does idle without giving it gas in first and second gear, but every one of those surges from the cam can be felt in the shifter. I don't have much to compare to though, this is the first car i've had with a cam in it. It's got the 38% fuel lobe on it.
I'm glad you had a good experience with speed inc. When I went there to originally get my car tuned after I did my original BTR cam, they butchered the tune and it ran awful. I eventually found a shop who was able to fix the mistakes, so it finally drove without any of the surging that I had before. I now went to a larger converter and want to go to a bigger cam, so your input on drivability is much appreciated. I think that I'm definitely going to go to a larger cam, I am just not 100% on which one yet. Anyway, thanks again for all the info it helps a lot!
Maybe talk direct to BTR
Drivability tuning separates the men from the boys when it comes to big cams. A mild cam can sound lopey and drive like chit, and a big cam can be tamed and drive well. It takes a lot of iterative work to do it right, so it's usually not done. I am still an amateur when it comes to tuning but I made my big cam car start/idle/drive 10x better than the 'pro' who tuned it

Thanks for the input. I did talk to BTR as well as my tuner and they both said it should be fine with a stall. I'm just looking for some real world input before I pull the trigger and do a whole new cam. I honestly don't need to, its just a thought as to if I could get away with it while I have the motor apart. I know my tuner is very good at taming the cams, so I'm not too worried, but I just want to see other's experience with that specific cam or other big cams in the C7. Again, thanks of the input I appreciate it.
Cool, no problem. I will have to get some help with the surging in short order, i've dealt with it so far, but it's not much fun at all.
Yeah the surging was an absolute pain. I was lucky to find someone local to help me with my surging issues. If your in Illinois, I can recommend a very good tuner to help you with that issue. I'm definitely trying to avoid anymore surging if I do swap the cam once again.
I recently installed an MTI spec cam with a 114LSA which sounds very good and is driver friendly for my everyday A8 Z06. If you haven't installed yet, give Billy or Jayson a call. Outstanding communication.
