Hi all I am looking to upgrade my speakers on my 2016 z06 one option i was looking into was just replacing the speakers keeping the original amp and replacing the speakers with hi sensitivity and low ohm's units to be able to get acceptable volume levels also i wouidnt be using the dash center speaker which I feel is unnecessary. has anyone had any sucess this way? My other option is bypassing the head unit altogether and using my phone to stream having the phone hooked up to an after market amp and using the existing speaker wires I would also install a dsp with auto tuning or an amp dsp combo unit. If I could get away with just replacing the speakers then i wouidnt add a separate sub woofer because I feel if I use 1 or 2 ohm high sensitivity 10in shallow mount woofrs in the doors the bass would be sufficient. I would also use low ohm high sensitivity speakers for the other speakers if I can get similar volume levels to the factory volume i would be satisfied. If. I go the separate amp wrought then I probably will go for a dual 10in box if anyone has had any experience with these scenarios i would appreciate any advice one of the reasons I want to avoid the head unit is i really don't want to spend the money on a head unit interface when all I use is the aux input for streaming from my phone. If anyone has any opinion or any other advice I would greatly appreciate it
I did exactly what you're contemplating. Here is the parts list. All bought from Crutchfield. They have great prices and great support. They sound great and are plenty load for my taste and goals. You could spend more and go full component route, but this accomplished what I wanted.
Parts List: Infinity REF-3032CFX Upper Doors and Center Dash X 3 Infinity REF-375TX Dash Corner Tweeters X 2 Infinity REF-6532EX Rear Side Speakers X 2 Infinity REF-1000S Door Woofers X 2
Total: $817.00
Additionally I had several misc items like wire splicing tool and taps to replace the OEM connectors. In hindsight and a lot more patience, I could have preserved the original connectors, but I was never going to put the OE back, so I didn't do it.
Do the Infinity REF-1000S speakers work in the doors without cutting or drilling? Crutchfield does not list those for C7 door speaker applications.
No cutting, but some use of clips, new screws and re-positioning. They fit and clear with no issue otherwise. It took about an extra 30 minutes of time/effort. Crutchfield indicated no aftermarket woofer for the doors is available, but obviously they did not indicate that you just need to modify the mounting situation. They fit and sound great.

Can you explain what you mean use of clips and re-positioning? And thanks for your reply!

Crutchfield includes extra hardware with all their speakers. The clips slide into any suitable spot along the edge of the speaker openings. They give you something to attach to if an original spot does not exist. I used 4 of them to "create" mounting points for the screws.
Check out Item #:120SPHKC on Crutchfield site. Hope that helps to show what I'm referring to.

Yes I see those clips. So if you are using those clips, don't you have to drill new holes where the clips go? Not a show stopper I guess if you do, I was just hoping for no drilling or cutting of the door panel.

The holes would be drilled along the edge of the speaker opening. Nothing is interfered with nor any structural impact what so ever. All the old gear can be reinstalled should that ever be needed. No impact.
If you're looking for more options, there was this looooong thread about stereo upgrades: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...e-project.html
It discusses a wide variety of options, but the inexpensive one is the one I chose replacing only 5 speakers (which all fit without mods/clips) and made a huge difference in sound. One thing you discover when take the door apart is that GM used really bad connectors for the OEM speakers and it gave me fits with speaker cutting out/ no turn signal sound.
I need to replace the 10" door speakers in my car because they make a bad vibration sound - I think the surround has separated from the housing. The Pioneer speakers recommended in that long thread are no longer available. And the replacement has very low efficiency. So I am interested in the Infinity speakers but I do not understand the 2-4 ohm switch. How can this work? And the sensitivity is rated at 89 dB but is that in 2 ohm or 4 ohm mode? The manual states that sensitivity will go up by 3 dB in 2 ohm mode. Does that mean it is 92 dB in 2 ohm mode? Or does that mean the sensitivity spec was measured in 2 ohm mode and the speaker would really be only 86 dB in 4 ohm mode?
I still do not see how they can switch from 2 to 4 ohms. If it was a dual coil speaker, you could switch from parallel to series connection of the coils, but that would result in a 1 ohm or 4 ohm selection.
I was wondering if anyone knows if the signal from the amp to the doors woofers are full range i ask because I know the woofers and tweeters are wired on the same output so if the fronts are receiving a full signal the capacitor will filter the lower frequencies 1st question is the 3.5 in in the door wired on a separate output ? Or does the signal to the woofers and tweeter just being sent those frequencies and the 3.5 being sent its separate frequency or is that speaker full range I have a feeling it's similar to home speakers are sent the full signal and then appropriately crossed over in the box i was just wondering if the cars setup is some what similar .. I hope im explaning this correctly. Thank you in advance for any incite you could provide

Good luck. It's worth it...
do you need an amp or any special mods the the speakers for the installation? Do the door woofers need an amp? Can they just be swapped out and automatically sound better
Thanks for the thread! I just picked up a 2017 GS, and found the fronts to be blown and I am looking for replacements. When I look at the factory speaker replacement, it says 8.48" dia and the Infinity here says it's a 10". I'm capable of making modifications but I have to ask again - Will these fit and above says only drilling for new mounting screws, how do these fit into the same housing?
