'19 Z06 LT4 Injector "cleaning"

17.8K miles on my Sebring Orange '19 Z07, in for oil change at dealer and they recommended a 15K mile service (cabin filter, Injector cleaning, and TB cleaning) for $250. I put in a HEPA cabin filter at 12k miles, and I run Lucas fuel treatment every other tank of gas, so I declined the service until I did a little research. Comments or opinions on this service appreciated. What do they do, and how do they do it? Is my routine use of Lucas a good substitute for the dealership cleaning? Thanks.

PS. My car is stock except for a Soler throttle controller, aftermarket engine air filter, and a set of stock size Forgelines.

When a dealer recommends all that stuff, I always ask to show me those services in the owners manual, & of course, they can't. I will go with cabin air filter, they do get pretty nasty quickly, but you changed that. the only thing I see. coolant change @ 5 years, that is in the owners manual. Dealer is looking to make additional sales, can't blame them for that, just like drugs, say no thank you.

High profit to cost ratio is why they recommend it. $250 to swap a $10 filter, pour some treatment into the tank, then spray a little TB cleaner.

Before Direct Injection as in the 1990's- 2000's, Fuel Injectors could restrict as soon as 15,000 miles and cause various drivability issues. Today rarely they are an issue as fuels contain additives to combat those issues as well as improved injector design. Injector cleaning was done using as separate fuel pump with a cleaning agent that did a nice job of cleaning the old type of injectors and some cleaning of the carbon on the back of intake valves and combustion chambers. For car at your mileage with no drivability issues I would say no way. The throttle body can be cleaned easily in the garage when changing the air filter with some spray. This used to be a good added maintenance but not so much anymore and like Belvin20 said it's not in the manual...

I have had my Z06 SC off two times in the last 4 years. Both times I found a fair amount of carbon in the throat of the throttle body and on the throttle blade. I use some cleaner on a rag to clean the throttle body. If you are removing the intake air tube for any reason cleaning the throttle body doesn't take much effort. After I cleaned it the first time I noticed an off-throttle stumble that I was having now and then when driving around town had disappeared.

the dealer level fuel injection cleaning is pretty good. there is usually 2-3 parts. just a simple bottle to pour in the tank like the lucas. but the other parts are a can that hooks up directly to the fuel line and the car runs off of only the cleaner for a while, then there is usually a foaming cleaner for the intake mani and to clean the throttle body. its definitely not something you can just grab from autozone and do yourself. when I was at the dealership, we would usually recommend it every 30k. in your case, i would probably wait to do it.

also, keep in mind the recommend maintenance is for driving conditions no one drives in. there used to be a normal list and a "severe conditions" list, but you really don't see that too often any more. short trips, stop and go traffic, revving the engine over like half the rev range, temps above like 90 and below like 50, etc are considered severe conditions.

cabin filters are usually recommend at 15k, that's why they recommend that.

the dealership will always recommend services because like mentioned, they are high profit to cost. but that doesn't mean they are not needed.
