Default DEXRON Vl

i am about to change transmission fluid in my 2014 M7.
i am having a hard time finding Dexron lll to purchase.

i have found several articles online stating that Dexron lll was phased out by GM in 2011 and replaced with Dexron Vl.

Does anyone have any experience with Dexron Vl in their M7 vehicle?

GM manual transmission fluid p/n 88861800 is still available as are some synthetics.

DO NOT USE DEXRON VI in the C7 manual transmission, ONLY DEXRON 3 or equivalent.

Red Line D4 ATF did make a noticeable improvement in my M7 when I switched from factory fill. Mainly the 1-2 shift when cold.

ANother Redline supporter. Really helped my 1-2 cold shift. I wouldn't even consider anything else.

Do not use DEXRON VI in an M6 or M7 car. It is too thin. There are plenty of DEXRON III equivalent tranny fluids out there including Redline D4, AMSOIL ATF, AMSOIL Torque Drive, etc.

The GM recommended lubricant is available on Amazon and works just fine in my M7. The page says they only have 6 quarts in stock.

If you don't have a pump to pump the lubricant out of the container purchase the correct pump from Amazon. The transmission and diff fluid containers have different size openings so two pumps are needed if you are changing both fluids.

You DON'T want the wrong lube! Years ago a friend put the wrong fluid (typical gear-lube) in a T-5 (requiring auto-tranny fluid). Not good!
