2024 C8 of the Year Finalist - Modified
Default Android auto help

I'm looking to get back into a Manual and the C7 is a fantastic car. The only feature I'd like to retain from my C8 is android auto. Wired is fine.

From my research on here the 17 and later have the feature standard, while the 16 needs an update. Talking to some dealers selling used 16s they wont flash the update for me because they consider it jail breaking even after being shown the TSB and my offering to pay.

My question then is for you all with a 14 to 16 what has worked best to incorporate AA to the infotainment system?

Buy the 16 and take it to another dealer that will do the update on the TSB. The only other options are to send your HMI out for programming to a company like WAMS.

As mentioned 2016 can be enabled with a simple programming by the dealer, I have it done in mine and it works perfectly

Earlier years need to change physical parts of the infotainment system

That's reassuring. Do they have a problem if you're not the original owner?

The dealer can get the software from 8 years ago?

GM service bulletin only covers a certain range of VINs they will upgrade for 2016. Start of production to G5121027. I was out of the range and couldn't find a dealer that would upgrade me.

I sent my HMI out and got way more for the money than I would have paid at a dealer. Only drawback was a couple weeks down time (car won't run without it) and HMI was a bit of a pain to remove.

What is the specific 2016 Service Bulletin that you are referring to?

UPDATE: I found it ..... Service Bulletin 16-NA-042

Thats it...I guess I should add I did only try a couple of dealers so its entirely possible that they didn't want to do it vs. not being able to do it, I don't know.

Who is this "some dealers"? First thing is you need to stop talking to the idiots, aka Service Advisors. Find out if the facility has a Corvette certified tech. Talk to that guy about the update and show him the TSB number. The SA is good for making an appointment and not much else. He doesn't represent the dealership. I don't even think he represents himself or herself or whatever it is they are identifying as these days. After which, you specify "Mr X does this job. If he is not available, call me the day of service and we will reschedule. I do not want anyone else doing it even if they have 500 years of experience as a mechanic.". I take some time to ensure that it goes to the right person until I gain more trust. This isn't just my Corvette. It goes for every car I own that I send in for work.
