I thought for sure I’d find a definite answer via search, but no such luck. Installing a Procharger. What’s the best way to keep the engine from turning over while removing/tightening the bolt on an automatic? Haven’t done this in awhile and forgot!
I had to pull the starter and use a tool to lock the flywheel. Pulling the exhaust down out of the way can be a challenge.
I had to use heat on the flange nuts so they would not strip out.
I used a kit that I purchased online to pin the dampener to the crank, your kit should come with one.
Be prepared to torque that crank bolt to like 300#!
I had to buy a 3/4" torque wrench to go that high.
And get my buddy down under the car to help me pull on that wrench!
I had the flywheel lock but i chose to use a 2 1/4 wrench slipped over the torque tube connector thru the inspection hole at bottom of bellhousing as it was easier than dropping my headers to drop the starter . Have someone hold it while turning , it will lock against the bell housing , then you can have at it .
My bolt was really hard to get off for some reason , I used a 1100 ft pound impact, a 36 inch breaker bar and then it finally let loose using the 36 inch breaker bar along with a 2 ft pipe slipped over it for additional torque, some come right off , others fight u to the end
Also there is no need to pin the harmonic balancer on an LT motor
Really? There was no key or keyway on my engine.
Not a big problem on a NA motors, but I've heard of issues on blown motors spinning the dampener and ruining the crank nose.

Yep , was a big problem on the C6 but for some reason not on the C7 . Maybe if you are running big boost 🤔
For me... didn't do anything to keep the engine from turning. Employed a Milwaukee 2767-20 ½” High Torque Impact Wrench after applying some heat... and my 2017 GS with automatic was definitely keyed. And I'm very glad the specification for the bolt and Innovator's West balancer I installed was only 130 lbs.

I have no idea why mine was so hard to get off .... , i had so much heat on it and it just would not budge .....

I have to say, until I put heat on it I was very worried. The heat was magical... didn't take much either. I swear they painted that bolt with lock tight.
I can't imagine the pucker factor you experienced.
