Is it normal for me to spend 3500 on parts and 2500 labor for cam?
Not sure of the split but your total price is close, that why most just slap on a Centri and call it a day.. you still retain the low-end torque plus you will make way more power and not have to deal with changing a converter if you have an automatic ...

Like pretty much spot on I got quote 9k for Cam/Heads package on mine. I ended up throwin on a A&A Kit.
I have now built my car and I didn't the work myself to save on the labor. That's usually the expensive part.
I got stage 2 BTR cam installed last year. Labor alone was $4k. Might as well do the clutch too. After Mantic triple cost was $11k. But just know you will essentially have a fresh top end when it's done. 10k miles on it so far and no mechanical issues. Only electrical ones

Wiring harness was routed poorly (Which it is from the factory apparently) headers melted my wiring. Also my car in particular just has loads of electrical issues. not a thing to do with the cam though
I will be dropping the subframe to remove engine harness and try to repair outside of the car. My in car repair did not solve all the issues. **** case open for 3 months now, no response from GM.

damn that sucks. I just finished up a header install a few weeks ago. I hope I don’t run into melted wires down the road!

Where the knock sensor is and the wiring comes alongside the motor under the long tube headers it broke the plastic ties holding it I assume and drooped down over the headers. I double secured it and it still drooped in the middle again. So I have added 3 x 1/4" zip ties for securing purposes. I have also coated the headers from Jet Hot and the engine bay is so much cooler. I would especially keep an eye on this section. unfortunately it is impossible to be hands on without removing the headers first. I also always run the car hard and get it hot which may have made matters worse
I spent $5500 for the cam and labor portion at a reputable shop but it was part of a much bigger build. That was also 3 years ago though. I’m not sure how much pricing has changed.
